HELLO FAMILY,

I hope you all are doing great wherever you? I am doing well here and I'm happy to stop by again in this beautiful and creative community @steem-ghana, and I want to share something important.
Lately, I have noticed some strange habit in me, which is abnormal and since I have seen the best way to solve that, I want to share it here with you dear friends. What habit is that? you may wonder. It is Procrastination. This is an unhealthy habit that is not good for anybody. Perhaps, you are a victim too. This little piece of mind could be just what you need to get that habit down. The question now is:

  • What is procrastination?
  • What are the signs of procrastination?
  • Why is it unhealthy for steemians?
  • How can we tackle Procrastination?
    Let’s find out more about procrastination by considering the first question and the one that follows accordingly.

WHAT IS PROCRASTINATION?

Procrastination which is pronounced /prə(ʊ)ˌkræstɪˈneɪʃ(ə)n/ can be defined as an act of being slow or a total halt on doing something, it can also be defined as an act of postponing a task with the mindset of doing it later.
If you postpone what you could have done or should do now and it becomes a normal action in your life, then that is procrastination, it is not normal. And most times, it happens when we are overwhelmed with a lot of tasks to do. Sometimes it could be a result of tiredness as well. A lot of things could contribute to procrastination. But whichever the case, the good news is that you can still get over it if you are a victim. And also note that it can happen to anybody, so you are not alone.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF PROCRASTINATION?

I will use a few examples to talk about those signs. For example;

Do you always feel tired to complete your given task or even your house chores, not because you are really?

Does your tasks always seem to be more pressing or overwhelming every time even when it is not for real?

Do you lack motivation in handling a task?

Do you always feel too busy to the point that you feel, it would be wise to turn down your important tasks?

Do you keep promising that you will do a particular thing only to repeat the promise again and again and still end up not doing it, but giving excuses?

If you have experienced any of those things above, then likely you are a victim of procrastination, I was too folks.
The comforting news is that, you are not alone in this, sadly this is one weak point most of us have.


WHY IS IT UNHEALTHY FOR STEEMIANS?

As a Steemians, procrastination is a very bad threat, because, it would only lead you to loss.
Take, for example, if a contest is given in a community, we all know that most times it ends in 7 days time, so let’s assume, you keep procrastinating to participate from day one, two, three, etc. until it gets to the last day of the contest. Chances are: you will either keep procrastinating or you summit a contest, that has expired. So, for steemians, it is not good.

As a steemians, you are a blogger, and a blogger writes a lot, but if you give procrastination a chance, then you won’t achieve your main goal of being a blogger here.
You will lose so many chances of getting curated or votes. You could become inactive steemians and the worst part is that your reputation would still be backward instead of forward.

HOW CAN WE TACKLE PROCRASTINATION?

To tackle procrastination, you can do the following, also note that also helped me to get this habit off my way:
First, you need to acknowledge that you can’t do everything at the same time.
Start doing your task immediately once it is due, don’t wait for the last day or last minutes.
If the task is much, break it into smaller units and do them one after another.
Seek assistance where necessary.
Try to imagine the consequences if your task is not done, that should motivate you to complete or do any given task without the mindset of “I will do it later”.
Write down your daily tasks, you can paste them on your wall or board, this is what I do and it helped me.
And overall, ask God for help or assistance, he can help you keep these listed suggestions.

CONCLUSION

Procrastination is a “forward Slower” or better still a positive happening stopper. Please do not give it a chance. Always strike a balance in your daily task, do what you can in a day and make sure you do what you suppose to do the following day. All this calls for self-discipline.
