Watching my son draw always makes me feel very amused.
Let me give you an example. A few days ago, he brought back the art notebook that he used in the art classes at school last semester. This art notebook is basically not taken home usually. There are about 14 or 15 art class themes in a semester, and a work is completed for each theme. The teacher will grade the works according to various indicators such as the content.
He showed me the art notebook from the last semester of his fourth grade. Every time I flipped through his works, I thought this kid was really funny. Let's talk about two of his paintings.
One painting has the theme of "The Place and Life I Want to Go in the Future". We clearly live in China. It's not that he has never been abroad. He went to Bali in Indonesia once when he was a child. But he has definitely never been to Russia. However, I don't know if it's because he usually reads books or watches videos and has learned a lot of popular science content about Russia. He is really longing for Russia. As a result, when painting this theme, he drew what seemed to be the typical buildings in Russia, and there was an airplane behind them. He also specifically wrote the English word "Russia" in the blank space of the painting. In front, there was a road, and in front of the road, he drew a boy. I'm not sure if he drew himself. That person was drawn in a very funny way. In my eyes, he looked like a ghost. However, this is a typical children's painting style, full of imagination, and it fully expresses the place he yearns for in his heart. Children's paintings should not be judged from the perspective of adults. Adults think that a good painting is one that looks like the real thing and is realistic. But for children's paintings, as long as a child can fully express his inner imagination, and the color matching is rich, full of vitality and vigor, it is a good work.
Let's look at the second painting. The theme seems to be "Warm Colors in Life". Interestingly, the typical representative color of warm colors in this child's heart is bright red. He seems to have drawn the Big Ben in the UK. I'm not sure if the Big Ben looks exactly like that, but it seems a bit similar to what he drew in my impression. Then he drew a lot of buildings and also painted dense red patches and dots in the sky and on the ground as embellishments. It feels like this little kid likes not only Russia but also the UK. It seems that he is very interested in the buildings in Europe. This painting in bright red makes me feel his passionate little heart.
Later, I flipped through some of his other paintings of different themes, and they all made me laugh. There is another painting with the theme of "The World Outside the Window". In this painting, there is a big window, and a little girl's back of the head is facing our "camera". The world outside the window is colorful. It seems that the little girl is pointing at the singing birds outside the window with her hand.
Each of his paintings for themes that allow free play is unconventional and full of a child's imagination. Every time I look at his art works that are created completely from his own imagination without the need to copy other works, I feel that his little head is really rich in imagination, full of all kinds of magical colors.
Children's paintings can, to a certain extent, reflect their inner world.
From his paintings, I can feel the richness of the colors in his inner world.
