
Along the way, I meandered through rolling green hills, flanked by dry stone walls and fields dotted with sheep. I made a small detour to visit the famous Lower Slaughter, a village that feels like stepping back in time with its traditional honey-colored limestone cottages and the meandering river Eye. Here, I stumbled upon a lovely little tea shop, where I indulged in a delicious cream tea and chatted with a couple from London who were on a weekend getaway. We exchanged stories about our travels, and they shared their favorite spots in the region, which was a nice touch!
As I continued my walk, I encountered a fascinating old mill – the Old Mill at Lower Slaughter - which has been beautifully preserved. The mill was not only a sight to behold but also a reminder of the area's rich history in rural craftsmanship. I took a moment to watch the water wheel turn, feeling connected to the past in that serene setting.
As I journeyed on, I passed through several charming hamlets, each unique in its character. I met some locals tending to their gardens, who were more than happy to share anecdotes about their village's history and the challenges of rural life today. Their warmth and pride in their locale were infectious.
By the end of my walk, I reached the iconic village of Stow-on-the-Wold, where I admired the impressive Market Square and the historic churches. I ended my day at a cozy pub, enjoying a hearty meal and reflecting
