I have been practicing meditation for more than a year.
All I can say that there is nothing mysterious in meditation. I believe that many people already experienced meditative state. For example, when you watch the sea or the sky. And then realised that for sometime your mind was empty and you felt disconnected from all other things around you.
I love such moments as if there is no past or future. For some time I forget about all my problems and I don't feel any emotions. I just feel the present moment. That is in general the sense of meditation.
There are different levels of meditation. You can meditate on different objects, sounds, states. You must feel so involved into the meditation that everything else disappears.
Be relaxed but concentrate on your breathing or object or sound. You will notice that thanks to meditation many problems will seem irrelevant or not significant anymore. The people around you will see that you got happier and calmer. You will feel balanced and strong emotionally.
Vedanta Meditation
You can meditate by using the techniques of Vedanta. Vedanta is a philosophy of observing your thoughts and asking questions. If you get a thought " I am scared." then ask yourself "Who Am I? " " What am I doing here?" By asking a chain of questions you will realise that you are bigger than your physical body. You will feel connected with universe.
