If I were to give this a one word summary: motivation

Yeah, I know. The motivation guy talking about motivation. Just hear me out.

Much of the behaviours you have described can, in one way or another, be attributed to motivation. To be more specific, the motivation to not learn (ie motivation to do anything else other than learn) is higher than the motivation to learn. And this drives behaviours in the various ways you have described.

Perhaps, one viable solution could be to manage motivation in order to drive the behaviours that result in learning.
