Well it is the start of a new year and I have been thinking what type of tropical plants I should plant this year.
Last years tropical plants were papayas, bananas, ginger, and turmeric. This year I am still going to do papayas and if the banana tree made it through the winter I will try it again. We are currently located in Arkansas and it does get cold here. So how do I keep the plants warm? Click here for a link of how I winterized my tropical plants. https://steemit.com/homesteading/@randomstuff/winterizing-the-tropical-fruit-trees
My new plants were found today as I was looking through the Bakers Creek 2018 seed catalog. I am going to try to raise pomegranates. These are supposed to be a rare fruit that is an extra dwarf so I should be able to keep it in the house during winter months. The variety is called Orange Masters Pomegranate which is an ornamental plant.
The other plant I am going to try to raise this year is a Pink Banana. Yes it is just the way it sounds, the bananas are pink. It says that they can be hard to germinate but once growing they are easy to keep alive.
I will also be doing a more detailed post on these when they come in but for now this is what I know about them. If you have any tips on these plants let me know and if have any recommendations for other dwarf tropical plants let me know. I am trying dwarf this year so I can keep them in pots and hopefully keep them alive this winter.

We have pink bananas, they are just ornamental, not edible. They open before turning to sugar from starch and filled with seeds. Fish tank heaters and tubes of water installed into the ground or in a greenhouse will keep things warm cheaply. I would go with grafted citrus. Minneola tangelo, you can order them from Florida once it gets warmer. I think nursery that mail plants are.
Top tropicals
Lara farms
Pine island nursery
If you kept bananas and papayas alive though you could likely keep some other grafted trees alive like sapodilla, white sapote, green sapote, cherimoya, etc

Thank you for that information. From what I thought that the pink bananas are edible. I will have to look in to that.
