Scientists Have New Method to Determine Our Galaxy's Mass: Astronomers say due to new technological advances, they now are finally able to determine how much the Milky Way actually weighs - and they say its mass is nearly 960 billion times that of our sun.
Now come on - aren’t we becoming a wee bit too obsessed with weight when we find ourselves trying to weigh the entire frigg’n galaxy? I mean, what the hell’s the point of fat-shamming the Milky Way? Its not like you can put it on a diet or tell it to get more exercise.
OK, I realize that the Milky Way is set to devour the whole Andromeda galaxy in another 4 billion years, but come on - who among us doesn’t get a little hungry now and then? Just think how hungry you’d be if you had to wait nearly 4 billion years for your next meal.
If you ask me - its not the galaxies, but the damn black holes who are the real gluttons. I mean, they’re constantly gobbling up anything and everything around them like the big, fat pigs they are. But you can’t fat-shame them because they don’t emit any light so you can’t even see how fat they are. Hey, all I’m asking for is a little fairness here. Is that too much to ask?
