The Meta-Fish at Steemit

in humor •  7 years ago

We all know the five common fish types that roam the Steemit waters. Here is a picture I cut from Steemitboard of them:

You have the Red fish, the minnow, the dolphin, the orca and the whale.

Here are the lists of vests for each:

Again, these are taken from @arcange's Steemitboard (actually an old post so might not be relevant but no matter). Pretty cool. I don't know what category you are in but, I am a dolphin. I became a dolphin, albeit a little one, by working pretty hard to get enough SP and hopefully I am doing a relatively decent job of helping others too.

But, This post is about the two other lesser known fish in the waters. These other two are special as they can live alongside any of the other five in some kind of symbiotic relationship. Here they are here:

Even though they can appear anywhere, the Sell-fish rarely makes it past redfish level, for obvious reasons as everything they earn, they immediately take out to market and sell. In old age, the Sell-fish often metamorphoses into the regret-fish due to very bad foresight but excellent hindsight.

Its larger cousin, the confusingly named Selfish often acts similarly yet does have the foresight to see the value in the future but, fails to see that helping others helps them too. Instead, they spend all of their time in FOMO collecting and none of their time sharing. Different to the regret-fish, in old age, they often become a lonely-fish, albeit with a lot of holiday shells to visit.

Both the Sell-fish and the Selfish are common in the waters, sometimes hard to spot but hopefully in time, their presence will diminish as the corners of the pools they collect from dry up. Of course, they are both very resourceful fish and will find new and innovative ways to keep their good thing going however, with too many of them they will suffocate their supply and all of the fish feeding from the pool will die together.

This is just a little bit of something silly and the image took me way too long to create in paint :D But, what kind of other fish are there in these waters? Which ones do you think harm the ecosystem and which help? What kind of fish do you want to be?

So many fish in the sea , but let’s see who has their eyes on me :D

obviously an 'attention-seeker fish' :P

lol, I totally enjoyed this post. I am also a self-made dolphin! Cheers.

I love to do a little routine about how nobody cares about the Dolphins. It is fun to seek whale attention, it is fun to help a minnow, but nobody cares about us! (it is also just in fun, but with enough truth to make people think.)

I know right. One benefit in being the ignored fish is less DMs asking for votes :)

haha man this has deflated me - here i thought i was getting somewhere - only to discover I'm still a red fish.....

No worries, it won't take long with a little work :)

This is both funny and humorous. I didn't know that there is a category below minnow. So, I'm not sure if I'm one.

Oh, to share more humor, There are also pollutants in the sea. Those that sign up and eventually decide not to do anything with the account. They just float around, harming the sea without any benefit.

Parasites exist as well. They cling on to the sea creatures trying to extract benefits just from themselves. They are slowly weakening the ecosystem.

Hehe! 😊

sucker fish?

Well, we can put it that way. Lol.

I've also heard the little red fish referred to as plankton. I like this name for beginner minnows too haha!
I'm just a minnow on the sore to become a dolphin! 🐬

It is a fun journey to take :)

I'm ready for it mate!

There are some wanderers too who get bored and migrate and come back when steem is on the rise.

Ah, I call them the 'goodtimes fish' :)

They like the hot summer and migrate when it gets cold ;)

I'm so new I don't even know what a vest is.I just want to be a fish who can swim. I'd also like to share my poetry and short stories and the occasional pic. I just have to keep at it. I loved your new fish.

:)
Sharing is the easy part here, it is free for everyone. If you want engagement with what you share, it takes work across the site, not just within your own blog. Work and of course, patience.

A vest is how the system counts SP. It is the weighting voice for influencing (voting).

It is only the Unselfish which will grow up to be a Kingfish one day!

I'll make sure not to be one of the "fishes that will not be named"

There are more. There are the hack-fish (those waiting for accounts to hack), tabula Essa (have no original thought, just copy and paste) beggar-fish (always begging for sbd, votes, comments, steem, esteem, steem power, money...) 😂
I hope I get to be a dolphin or a whale some day. Do you have any ideas on how to go about it? (beggar fish)

For me to be a dolphin, it has been time-in and working as much to be useful. Everyone has different strategies though but almost universally, it requires the community and off-platform activities.

Hey, join up (if not already) at Steemit.chat and find me under the same name, tarazkp

I've usually thought I actually accept fishes of all sizes, even though dolphins, orcas and whales are not fish at all.

But yes, I've seen users like this. I've been enjoying selling my payouts to other cryptos thinking "I will sell now and buy when Steem drops again" but.. it doesn't still doesn't look like it would drop.

But one kind of fish (unrelated to sell-fish and selfish), I've noticed a kind of user called bullfisht. They are just posting bullfisht on Steemit, but I'm assuming they do not know they are bullfishts themselves. That's why I'm sometimes afraid I might be full of bullfisht too.

It never drops enough...

Lol, I often wonder if I am bullfisht too so I continually check in the real-world. One good thing about living in Finland is that with the lack of social skills, someone will tell you :D

Oh no need to be in Finland to check that, usually it's enough to be married and you'll be sure to hear if you're being bullfisht :)

Don't forget the sharks. They bite the selfish and misbehafish with their large downvote power to intimidate them or keep them in line. Some sharks serve a clear purpose and are well-liked by the community, while others are controversial as they sometimes bite the wrong fish.

sounds funny and interesting. Of course the selfish should eliminate in the ecosystem. Now i understand thru your presentation I learn the kind of fish..Hoping to reach that dolphin Fish and guided by you sir.

Is plankton the same as redfish? I am working towards my growth on steemit which will be my part to make it grow.
