They slashed the author reward (aka qualitypostincentive) in half to distract us while implementing an open sourced labor market (I don't even remember what they call it) - which theoretically primarily targets (((future development of the platform))).
I wish I knew how to submit to a FAQ for the witnesses I vote for... I feel about them like I do my local and state representatives. Like, say I'm a witness real quick. I should know who's votes I carry, my constituency-consistently. I should be able to mass transfer message them with my take on what the hardfork means for them, and conveniently give them a transfer to reply to, in case they want to toss flak or steem my way.
I also have no clue what's up with the downvoting thing, but I know there are changes afoot. It'd be swell is steemit or #palnet were places where someone would comment and explain it ;)
It occurs to me you could token the flavor of a downvote. Tag it with a token as a bet it's poor quality, and then set a threshold in which betting your downvote could take the pot if the post was foul enough. Yeah, since front-end tokens are tribing up and ruining hashtags as a way to dilineate conent, the best step up would be than your hashtag becomes the token-flavor of how you're up or downvoting things.
That aside, I wanna talk to you about #ingress
Your most likely first association is pokemon go , but that's ingress because that's niantic.
Ingress is two-team global territorial conquest where each team makes triangular fields of mind control. You make the triangles at Portals (which are generally also Pokemon Go something or others), but which more interestingly have a determining criterion - the impact of human culture.
In game lore these portals are pockets where "exotic matter" leaks through into our universe, but the criterium for portal determination establishes those as things like post-offices, churches, mason lodges, city-purchased art fixtures, semi-permanent graffiti.

Well, in case you haven't noticed - the public has taken to having their mind programmed in pill form, and #quitefrankly whomever is running the game is missing a great opportunity to decentralize the plot.
Portals have a different strength level based on the experience whaleness and resulting gear of the person filling each of the portal's 8 resonator slots. If they allowed the highest level portals as wholes through which the players could upload crowd-curated game content in video/audio-clip pill form...
Barring that, a logged in player has access to the global territory feed - such game data could be fed to a third party to verify a portal destruction/claim and the individuals data to determine when such pill drops would be transmitted through other means.
