A Little Bit About Me

in introduceyourself •  6 years ago

Nope, I do everything myself. Swan is only 5 feet and is too small to do the heavy work. She takes care of the food while i do the dirty work. This afternoon, she did burn three large piles of debris I had collected and that helped a lot. I don't mind the work. When I finish, I can look at the job and have something to show for my time.

Did you ever try to negotiate with a deer? Easier option? HA!

There may be photos when I get time for that kind of thing.

Sure, when you get done and see the result of your effort, all becomes worth it. Glad to see that she is helping out in the little way she can.

Hahahah! No, the only time I have seen a deer was in a zoo, had nothing to negotiate with them😂😂😂. Well, you said it was supposed to be the easier option or did i read it wrong?

When it comes to negotiating with wild animals who want to eat your garden "negotiating" is a relative term. They will promise you anything but will still eat your garden!

Deer are everywhere around here. They are in our front yard almost every early morning and every evening. They love green leaves, especially the soft ones. They have a hard time during the winter when there are no nutritious leaves and they will come up to houses and eat decorative plants. I buy 50 pound bags of corn and put out some twice a day for them. Doing my part to help Mother nature!

Hahahahahahah! I guess the plants look like some sort of a yummy treat in their eyes...😀

I will really love to have them around here but well, I will have to leave my house if I wanna see them (or any other animal). Do you have other animals apart from the deer around? You really are amazing, atleast you are there to help them out when winter comes.

Yeah, I feel sorry for them in the winter because they do get hungry. I put out corn for them and they come every day and night and eat everything I leave for them. Since they are here, they use out decorative plants as their salad bar and Swan does not see the humor in that. Many times in the spring, the moms have their little ones very near our house because they know it is safe and there is food nearby. Watching a day-old deer wobble into the yard and learn to eat corn with its mom is a reward from Mother Nature.

Deer are the largest animals but we also have squirrels (of course), and wild turkeys. At night, Raccoons, Opossums, foxes, Owls, and some coyotes. We have bird visitors, depending on the time of year: Canada geese, hawks, osprey , Great Blue Heron, Kingfisher, and a long list of the more common songbirds (of which the Carolina Wren is my favorite).

There is no swampland nearby since we're about 25 miles from lower and flatter land. They have their share of animals that include alligators.

What is wrong with leaving your house? You live in one of the most exotic places on Earth for seeing wild animals! You have a camera, too! One and one = ?

Lol! She sure wouldn't see any humor in that, not sure I will either. That place you leave in is definitely a beautiful place.

That's a whole lot of animals. Why is that your favorite though?

Well, nothing wrong with leaving my house, I do leave my house like every day (actually, my parent's house🙈. Lol) The issue is leaving the house for a zoo/wildlife park. I guess its more of me being lazy or maybe I am just too used to it? The last time I went to a zoo (one not too far from my house) was about a year ago with my sister, we did take few pictures though. Nothing fancy...

Well, don't have a "professional camera" yet but my phone does the job...

The deer are my favorite because they are large animals (compared to all the others), they are shy and cautious, and they are so graceful with they run and jump. Almost all of them we see are females because the males are singular animals and only hang around with the does during mating season and then they leave. The does have their babies in the early spring and is not unusual to have a visit from 4 or 5 does with 6 or 7 little spotted babies with them. Three years ago, a doe had her fawn about 60 feet from our kitchen window! Within an hour, she led it to the front yard to show it where the corn was. That was so cool!

I actually like all the animals we have and wish there were more of them. Snakes, I can do without, but we try not to bother each other. Most of the small ones are night creatures and are working while I sleep. The Raccoons are the prettiest with their little black masks.

When I was working, the Columbia Riverbanks Zoo was a mile away from my office and I would often go there during my lunch hour and sit and watch the elephants. I'm certain I was an elephant in a prior life. Being there was a great stress reliever for me and I could forget about the office crazies for a short while.

The temperature was 45 degrees (7 C) this morning in a rough warning that the warm days are over for a while. I truly dislike cold weather! How cold does it get where you are?

You've had some amazing time with animals. And seeing that doe give and lead her fawn to where the food is definitely is so cool...

Elephants are so amazing, aren't they? I so much like them too.

It hardly goes below 10C (it does vary across states though)

Ii do see some interesting things. Our house has lots of large windows and no curtains, so it is easy to see out and feel like I'm a part of nature. The deer know we are indoors and they don't mind if we watch them and they feel safe with their newborn here. I like that a lot. We watch birds build nests and can see them feed their hatchlings. It's really nice!

Did you read my post, "The Foot?" If not, please do.

it's about a special elephant.

10 was exactly our temperature at 4 am today! I can get by with that but when it gets to ZERO, I want to stay indoors and try to be warm.

Addendum: something happened on weku over the weekend and all transactions made on Saturday and Sunday just disappeared! For everyone, it seems. Everything! No word from anyone on what happened.

I didn't notice. Is it all settled now? Maybe they had a little issue...

It is kind of settled and the problem was indeed because of the lack of witnesses. Two nodes got out of sync, one began creating empty blocks and when they got them synced and rebooted, the empty blocks replaced everything that was posted on Saturday and Sunday. Everything!

I worked all day with three long posts and they disappeared, along with the most W$ in upvotes i have had on weku. I happened to everyone.

Welcome to the Beta version!

I guess they don't have witnesses just yet so maybe fixing such things might take the a while...

How else can I give you big upvotes? Try it and see.
