Entrance to the Monastery of Temptation. About two thirds of the way up the Mount of Temptation overlooking Jericho in Palestine.
It was built around a cave where tradition has it that Jesus stayed, during His 40 day fast. It was built in 1895 by the Greek Orthodox church and is a tourist attraction.
View from the entrance to the Monastery. Overlooking Jericho. The cable cars can be seen coming up the mountain. This Cable Car was built in 1998.
Three Orthodox Monks dwell in the Monastery - one of them can be seen dressed in Blue behind my daughter. They conduct tours for visitors. They are not the most friendly of people. When we arrived at the gate it was locked. We could see this Monk but he just ignored us. We were about to leave when a group of Russian Pilgrims arrived and the gates were unlocked. We went inside with the Tour Group. When this Monk saw us inside he was very angry, so we did not stay for the tour (we could not understand it anyway)
