Also known as Chinese privet, glossy privet, tree privet or wax-leaf privet , it is an evergreen tree growing up to 10 meters tall.
It is commonly used as a dense evergreen hedge and can be trained to a specific size and shape with regular pruning.
Flowers are white or nearly white, with dense conical inflorescences and a strong fragrance.
The seeds are known in traditional Chinese medicine as nu zhen zi (female chastity seed/berry) and are believed to nourish the liver and kidneys.
