Whole30 Diet -- Starts Tomorrow, Join Me on My Journey!

in life •  8 years ago

Several months ago I was sitting in my hairdressers chair when she said, out loud, that she was craving celery.

Who craves CELERY!?

She proceeded to tell me that she was on a Whole30 diet and mentioned all of the things she had to give up for 30 days but also how great she felt and looked since starting. No stranger to the occasional detox diet, I was happy for her and envious too. I remembered the resurgence of energy levels I'd felt after detoxing over 10 years ago and stuck this idea among the many others in my to-do-someday file.

After the holiday busyness and recently driving for a long road trip my insides have felt awful. I occasionally do yoga and try to drink goji berry juice but these half-hearted attempts at good health are just not cutting it. I need an overhaul.

The reason I'm choosing Whole30 is because it's meant to be a system reset. It gives ones body 30 days to heal from a lifetime of inflammatory foods and allows it to really do some efficient cleansing of long held gunk.

Some of the issues that develop in relation to the foods we eat can be: skin issues, digestive ailments and seasonal allergies. I am personally troubled by all of these as well as fluctuating energy levels.

Also, my dreams bring up my elimination systems functionality quite often to get me to work on it. I think the thing I'm most looking forward to is increasing my intuition and seeing how channeling opens up for me. Yes, I admitted that just now. My dreams tell me that one of my spiritual gifts is mediumship but that the energy levels which are required to tap into those higher dimensions are great than my body will sometimes allow.

If our digestive/elimination systems are too slow (and mine is) then toxins will leach back into our blood stream through our intestines and colon. This creates extra work for our organs and lymph nodes to clean the blood, which is an energy zapper. Also, digested matter can get stuck along the walls of the intestines and diminish a nutrients ability to enter our bloodstream.
The state of our elimination system is directly linked to the rest of our health and well-being.

Tonight I ate the Chinese food that @codydeeds brought me from having dinner with his father. I was mostly interested in the vegetables but the soy sauce and added sugar are a no-no on Whole30. This was my last hurrah until 30 days are over.

I will write about the yucky detox symptoms and energetic benefits as I experience them and share the things that I'm able to eat.

Wish me luck!

Following on from @baerdric's comment, can I be cheeky enough to suggest you change the writing tag to paleo on this one? I think seeing your journey right from this very first post would be very valuable to the paleo followers.

Our household is also sensitive to nightshades. I think I commented in depth on the post mentioned, but basically it's arthritic type pain.

Upvoted and followed too.

Thank you. I can try a paleo tag for sure! I just don't know if I'll accidentally veer off course due to not having intended a paleo diet. It seems that this is pretty much in line with paelo living so I'll try. As far as nightshades go, I must not be as sensitive to them. I don't get arthritic pain but do notice canker sores from time to time, especially after tomatoes. Maybe that's a different issue altogether.

It doesn't matter if its exactly paleo. Any diet eating real food is welcome.
I did a quick search and it looks like nightshades can cause sores as well. Maybe just keep it in mind and observe.

Thank you for doing that research. I can't say they ALWAYS cause sores which makes me wonder if there are other physiological components that work together to create that reaction. I'll definitely keep an eye on it as you suggested and see if this diet cleanse has any affect on their affect.

I've watched people on Whole30 diets for a while and they seem to do really well. Most of them that I know end up Paleo, because that's how the diet is roughly set up. If you don't mind, I am going to promote this in the Paleo-Trail at Steem trail. You might consider tagging #paleo in your future posts so we can follow along and nominate you for SteemTrail votes.

Thank you for this! I will tag paleo in the rest of my posts about Whole30. I'm looking forward to chronicling my results and visiting other paleo posts for ideas!

Steemit is such an interesting place, I love this.

Looks like I am going to be eating more veggies, yay! ;)

Yay! Here's hoping the kids feel the same enthusiasm. 🙏

After all holidays it's very important 0

Great post, I should probably do the same!

Sometimes it takes a few months to warm up to the idea.

sounds like an ok reset diet, but do, please be careful. i did a very similar diet for about a year, and found that eating too much sugary fruit was a problem. berries were the best. i also discovered during that time that i am among the 20% of the population that reacts negatively to nightshades. i was shocked to find out goji berries are nightshades. i hope you're not in that 20%. tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes are among my favorite foods. all of them are in this family.

good luck. if you are interested in any of my experiences, please let me know.

Thank you for this thoughtful response. What were your negative reactions to nightshades? I miiiiiight be sensitive.

it depends on which one i've eaten. inflammation, muscle twitches and/or cramps, joint pain. the worst are potatoes and green bell peppers. i learned that for tomatoes and peppers, the more ripe they are, the better, but it is just the opposite with potatoes. i did a post about it a couple months ago.

Way to go @aprilangel
the best thing about a detox diet is that you will feel great while doing it and after! Best wishes on your journey

Thanks @danilamrilu! I'm starting day 3 now and feel surprisingly good already.
