Scales Don't Lie But They Don't Tell You Everything Either

in life •  2 years ago

The idea of being able to see and measure your progress is important to everyone. Whether you’re running a blog, selling online products or freelancing, the numbers and milestones on your growth can tell you what direction you need to go.

However, we all know this isn’t entirely true. There are other reasons why you might want to get more out of your money, time and efforts.

So why do we lie to ourselves? Why do we think we don’t need more? And how can we really get there?

In this post, I’ll be talking about the reasons why people end up feeling unhappy and stuck. I’ll show you some ways to stop lying to yourself and change the way you spend your time and resources.

STEP 1: You Aren’t Getting Paid Enough

There are a few common reasons why we don’t feel happy about our finances. Some of them are obvious and easy to fix, but others aren’t so obvious and need to be addressed in a different way.

We’ll start by looking at the most obvious one: not getting paid enough. There are two things that come to mind when you hear the word “not getting paid enough”:

Not getting paid enough money

Getting paid too much money

When we think about the first option, we tend to assume that money is the main problem. We think that it’s either too little or too much. However, as I pointed out in a previous post, not everything in life is about money.

It’s more important to understand what really matters to us. You can’t improve your finances until you do this.

There are many reasons why not getting paid enough money happens to people. Here are a few:

Unclear career path

Not enough time

Being paid by the hour

Lack of interest

Bad timing

I know that some people are already working on a way to increase their income, and I hope that’s the case with you. However, if this is not you yet, I would still recommend taking a look at this problem.

STEP 2: You Aren’t Spending Your Time On What Matters

What’s important to you? What do you consider worth your time? The reality is that you probably aren’t spending your time on what really matters to you.

When you have goals or ambitions, you can be sure that you’re spending time on something that really matters to you. If you were to put down an amount on a piece of paper for every hour you spend working towards your goals, then you could calculate the exact number.

However, we don’t actually do this. We spend our time on what we’re interested in at the moment. So here’s a quick list of things you’re probably not doing on a daily basis:

Going to school / university

Reading
