Hello Steemians, I want to share this brief Buddhist parable with you today. It is about what we have to do, when we want to be open to something new:
A long time ago there was living a wise Zen master somewhere deep in the mountains. Many people would come and ask him to teach them. One day a professor made the long journey to visit him and ask him for his wisdom.
First the professor introduced himself to the Zen master by mentioning all of his academic grades and then he said: "I have come today to ask you to teach me about Zen. Open my mind to enlightenment." The tone of his voice was one used to getting his own way.
The Zen master smiled and said: "We should discuss this matter over a cup of tea."
When the tea was served the master poured his visitor a cup. But when the cup was full, he didn't stop pouring. The tea began to spill over the table, but the master kept on pouring.
The professor watched the overflow until he could not longer restrain himself: "Enough! You are spilling the tea all over! Can't you see the cup is full?!"
The master stopped pouring and smiled at his guest: "You are like this cup, so full of your own opinions and speculations, that nothing more can be added. Come back to me when the cup is empty. Come back with an empty mind."
END
Personally I love this one, because we often think, we are so smart and understand everything. Emptying our cups can help staying open to new things and seeing the world in a different way than before.
I hope, you enjoyed it a little. :-)
Have a nice day!
It also helps to be talking to a master :). Thank you for sharing this story :)
