The tour of Estonia - Rummu quarry

Rummu quarry

For some time I’ve found abandoned and just a tiny bit forbidden places to be fascinating. Especially when those places have deserted in a hurry. @greddyforce was showing us around out side of Tallinn, and he had told that there is old quarry that would be interesting to visit. Quarry got abandoned somewhere in the 90´s, basically the story he told us had two versions, either somebody fucked up really bad, or there was horrible accident. Either way, the quarry flooded. The quarry was place where the nearby jail’s prisoner worked as a slaves mining limestone. When quarry flooded it covered a lot of buildings and forming a little lake. The water in the lake was crystal clear, like divers paradise.

When we entered to the sight we had to squeeze in from this little gap there was between gate and stone fence, that is how you know you are doing something remotely forbidden when there is no proper entrance. And also if the entrance is covered in barbed wire Just little hints there.

We climbed on the top of the wasteland pile to watch sunset. Or more like take photos from it.

I almost bailed out from the trip because photographing trip with people like @rubencress @eveuncovered and @greddyforce sounds like helluva intimidating experience when you are totally noob with the camera yourself. But there was nothing intimidating there, just bunch of weirdos with cameras having fun. The FOMO would have been massive if I had bail out, luckily I didn’t.

I was using EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens with Canon EOS 800D. I actually had a tripod with me, but when I would have needed it on top of the wasteland, I realized that I left my backpack in the car, and because sun was already setting I had no time to get it. But I don’t know if it really would have made any difference. Usually my hands are really shaky but I really didn’t drink as much coffee in Estonia, at least compared the doses I drink back home, so maybe steadiness came from not having caffeine overdose.

The trip to Rummu really was awesome, well not just because the sight was awesome, but also because I got nice and useful tips from others (okay, mainly from @rubencress) about how to take photos in different condition. I usually hate when people tell me what to do, but because people weren’t pushy it really was fine and nice to exchange thoughts about photographing.

It really was kind of amazing for me to notice that our sense of humor matched, because mine is horrible. Joking about getting murdered and stuff like that could be buzz killer for some people, so have I heard…

Really nice shots! Really like 2nd to last picture. Looks quite eerie.
Meanwhile I was stuffing my face in the old town :D

It is one of my favorites too:) and stuffing your face is good too.

Very nice,

I drove past it but didn't have time to stop there. This place is on my bucket list as well!

@greddyforce was awesome tourguide :D I don't know how to dive but i want to learn just because it would be so cool to dive there. Water is so clear that you can see the buildings under water.

Water is pretty clear there right? Lots of guys travel there to swim and jump in the water from the top of the old buildings!

I love diving. Would love to learn scuba diving.

It is totally crystal clear!

We should have went to swim as well, you didnt get to meet the swimming snakes there. :D

Oh damn! We missed the snakes! What a pity.

Good you went there after all so we didn't have to listen you mourn in the claws of FOMO :D

Hahah 😂 you would have hated it!

"Joking about getting murdered and stuff like that could be buzz killer for some people, so have I heard…"

that kind of humor might indeed be a bit too cold for most of the living beings.

Thank god im walking dead.

Wow! The way the perfectly calm water reflects the sky and color it gets. Beautiful pictures :)

Thanks! We were actually talking about you today when we were on boat:)

YOU WERE ON A BOAT WITHOUT ME?!?!? XD dangerous....

I know! That's why we talked about you! To feel more safe!

Okay, good.. If you ever get in trouble with the Gods of the sea, just tell them you know Islanderman..they'll give you a brake XD

Hahah! I'm just traveling back to inland so i wouldn't piss off the Gods of the sea anymore than I already did. Back to the land of shallow lakes and ponds.
