Speed Tests and Morning Coffee

Today I finally tackled a problem I’ve been having with my internet connection. I already had it in the old apartment but because I’m a lazy fucker, I never did anything to it. I’ve had good sleep, I was up early and I’m fuelled with a huge cup of dark roast coffee, so I finally started to look up what is wrong.

Now I have a different internet service provider than on the previous apartmet, but same stuff, 10mbps is included in the apartment for free, but I pay a whopping 9.90€/month for 100mbps connection, I know, so expensive, such cost. I’m sorry for all the people on the other side of the pond that have to pay insane amounts of money for internet connection. Finland is a first world country like no other, at least in this instance!

Anyways, I always use the wireless connection, because doh, a MacBook doesn’t have a place for ethernet cable, unless you plug a converter thingy in between, and wires are so limiting. Once every blue moon, I get a max download speed of 55mbps, but I think it usually hovers somewhere around 30. Not good enough! The ping time is somewhere between 6 and 10, so that is pretty alright. The apartment is not that big, and the connection doesn’t change much depending on where I am, so the walls are not the problem.

The millennial me, who works and plays (not like game games, but you know) on a computer all day every day, I need/want a great connection.

With the help of @cornerstone, my go to person for technology problems, I started to narrow down where the fault lies. Checking the specs on my MacBook Pro, which has the best hardware money can buy for that specific Mac, all good there. Testing speed with both wired and wireless connection, straight from the wall and though the router box. The router itself should be okay, it should be able to send out at least the 100mbps I’m paying for, but apparently there is a problem with the antenna or something. The wired connection gives out a good 94mbps speed, so the problem has to be the wireless connection.

Now I need to shop for a new router, more research it is then… Jesus those things are expensive, says the girl who can pay double that for shoes without thinking twice. Priorities….

Now I’m all wired up, see what I did there on coffee and don’t know that to do with all this hyper energy so I’m just writing like a maniac. I’m so grateful for automatic spell check that corrects the mistakes my phalanges make at this speed. Okay, I need to head out before I crash from the caffeine high and start napping!

Thank you @cornerstone for your guidance, help and patience!

Hehe my morning was the same as the evening, working at a connection error with a portal from my customer while drinking loads of coffee ☕ Don't know what I should do without the black gold 😱 But thanks to the coffee the problem is solved 🤓

You did use the same router in your old appartment? What router you have? (don't recognize the back). Already tried to test your macbook somewhere else?

And internet is way to cheap in the Scandinavian countries 🤣

I'm not super addicted to coffee, yet, but I do enjoy it. I also drink tea, so I think I do have a caffeine addiction anyways.

The router is Jensen Skandinavia, some cheap one I bought at least three years ago. Haven't tested the MacBook on any other wifi, but I will blame a 50€ machine first before the expensive one.

hehe for sure you have a caffeine addiction 😉

Ok back to Serious! Did you try to change the wireless channel at the router? Did you measure the available free space in channels in your area by software from your Mac? Would love to know what you guys did do to check some troubles. (sorry this is part of my job... 😇).

this can be very emotional, sorry for this :(

So emotional, me so sad, life so hard.

i know right ? I had a tough time last night, so much going on in my life with problems I am trying to solve and not having much luck, running the discord and servers and bots and trying to get my live stream ready for Poland Steemfest and everything is very emotional right now too, I am way too hard on myself and learning tech the best I can for being a beginner...I am sad you're sad :( i hope we can get it together and back to some fun times that are easier soon

I am not actually sad, and I have no idea why you would think I am 😅

cause you said you were, I get sad when things break. If you are not sad this is better for me. I don't like people to be sad for sure:) thank you for telling me..i like your posts on smoke too ...love black and white photos

I too spent the whole day dealing with projects not working out right and technical problems, I feel your pain.

I did not find any, having issues with obs after I had it set up perfectly, not sure what I can do to fix it, I joined their discord after reading everything I could on youtube and google to fix the latency problem but nothing seems to be working, it is driving me a bit nuts. My voice does not match my lips and nothing is working. damn. Thank you for asking ....Did you figure your problem out?

Did you find any solutions?

I finally did, I got everything worked out and I am not longer sad. Yes, I was really sad. Now I am just normal, not going to get too happy because there are always problems. hope for the best and expect the worst :)

No worries @Eveuncovered. You already knew what you were doing.
I'm flattered you let me feel like I helped. ;)

I did need help to make sure I'm not missing some part where the fault might be in!

My morning has consisted of : gym at 5, making my oldest breakfast and making sure he is off to a school ... and now to get the other two ready for school.

Wow, you are getting things DONE! 5am gym, that is intense!

I know ... I hate getting up so early ... I really am not a morning person ... but it’s either then ... or I dont get to go between work and the kids.
