The first picture I think I was 4 at my Grandpa's house in Cuba. The second I was 15-16 years old after I got to the US in Boston. The 3rd was at age 28 back in Cape Cod for a photo shoot after I already lived in Florida. The last was 4 years ago at age 36 and my biggest weight of 210 at 5'8". Now I just eat very little at age 40 and no where near enough protein to be that big, that is just fine with me since the game has changed from being big, to living as long and as healthy a life as possible.

I started lifting at a really abnormally young age when I first moved to Saugus from Cuba in 1987. I was only 12 years old when I started lifting seriously for 1-2 hours 7 days per week. My approach to training was always pretty unorthodox compared to what every one else suggested. I would train until I was really worn out or too sore to continue. The biggest thing that I think allowed me to continue progressively growing over the years was the mental drive that I used to have for just training and transforming. At my biggest I would train over 2 hours per day every day and would eat around 3000 calories. I have never had a hard time getting big, my problem was always getting lean. I would eat carbs around 300-400 grams per day when I wanted to get bigger and around 200 grams of protein. Probably around 40 grams of fat per day. But I have had friends that where smaller than me that would eat 6-7000 calories per day and would always be leaner than me. My slower metabolism has always been a gift and a curse. A gift because I can grow with out spending a lot on food or force feeding myself like others, a curse now as I am getting older because it literally takes me at least 1 hour of cardio per day and staying around 1800 calories per day to be at 10 - 12% bodyfat which is always my goal to be healthy. I would like to get down to around 185 lbs and be 10% bodyfat and maintain that. I would be able to do that with just going to the gym 4-5 days per week for and hour with an hour of cardio thrown in.

It is important to evolve as you get older and to make changes for better health and longevity. In my opinion eating like a bodybuilder and trying to get bigger past the age of 40 is not the best case scenario for longevity and optimal health.

It's amazing how when we are small we wish to be big. Then you get big and it's not nearly as cool or good to your body as you thought it would be.
I collected many injuries over the years being so active and it forced me to stop running. So instead of running I lifted and put on a ton of muscle and fat. Now I am fighting like hell to take it all off. Good thing is I can run again so now I can spend my time and energy there. Got a ways to go. Good post, stay healthy

Yep, being big is not so good for long term health. Eating like a bodybuilder is not so good for long term health, it is fine when you are young but as we begin to age not so much to be eating so much, so often, and so much animal protein.
