Let's read more books!

in life •  6 years ago

We all know how useful reading can be. We hear about it in school nonstop. But we often fail to do it, many of us don't read another book after college or high school. Reading provides delayed gratification which many of us don't have the patience for. And in an instant gratification world being patient can be an excellent quality to have.

Schedule it

This may seem a little weird or boring. For scheduling, your reading time will force you to do it. Have the books that you want to read ready to go. And do it! Even if you start at just 10 minutes a day. It will add up!

Set A Timer

Having a timer going for the books that you need to read. Will help prevent you from getting distracted. When I see a timer going, I am less likely to start doing something else. A timer will also let you keep track of how much you're reading. So you can increase as time goes on. You'll gain a sense of accomplishment, and that's always a great motivator.

Build A Habit

Habits are the cornerstone of everything that we do. Patterns can either destroy us or lead us to success. We always underestimate our habits! We often try to add new things to our lives. But we don't realize we need to tackle the bad habits that we already have. We say we don't have time for things, but most of us can handle 10 minutes of reading a day. Which adds up to 70 minutes a week. That's over an hour of reading every week which adds up very quickly. Make reading your habit! Read before bed, learn in the morning, read on the bus or the train. Read whenever you get an extra few minutes. Having a habit of opening your Kindle app instead of your game app will lead to more reading.

Find Something You're Interested In

I never imagined I would start my own business. I was at a job I somewhat liked. They gave me great benefits and decent pay. But I found some books that were interesting, and I couldn't stop reading about the subject. Many of them were self-employment books. They talked about people who can travel the world and still make enough to survive. That they could do anything that they wanted and work from anywhere. This was a lifestyle I thought was never possible, I had never heard of it before. If I hadn't read a book, I never would've been introduced to this. Who knows, I may not even be on Steemit right now. If it wasn't for reading! The person who introduced me to Steemit @Stellabelle Was in the same group on Facebook as me, Because we read James Altuchers "Choose Yourself." If it weren't for me picking up that book, I never would have found Steemit. Books can change your life.

Books are on every subject; you can find something that you're interested in. You don't necessarily have to read books that are nonfiction if you don't want to. But if you're going to learn something new you can use books for that as well. Many of the things I learned about my business are things I read in books. These books changed my life!

Conclusion

Most people won't read a book. They are too busy watching TV, and they won't change. Reading can help you grow; it can help teach you about someone else's life. We only can live one life, but books can allow us to live more. Reading can help you set yourself apart from other people. You'll gain new skills that you never thought you could. If you want to have a life different from everyone else, you have to do things most people are willing to do. And one of those things is reading.

Hi @kaylinart when you read you feed your brain and it's the best way to fly, feel or learn anything based in the words that someone wrote and that's the power behind a book. Regards

Look how i saw my harry potter books before read it

Hi Kaylin,
Excellent message I will upvote and resteem!
Thank you also for your support on my post on the internet, technology and freedom - really appreciated.

Have a wonderful day :D

Believe it or not, I enjoy reading books that I know will be made into movies and then seeing the movie. Lately I have been reading aloud to my wife in bed. We read On Chesil Beach, just finished The Wife and we’re starting Juliet, Naked.

Hi good morning @kaylinart, Books is my best friend and I have little bit library in my room. But only has mind promoting, language learning books. I most like to reading planing of future books. I have long term goals and I find my goals through books probably. That would be brilliant helpful blog.

Yes I to love to read a lot of books. I Got into it as a kid reading JK Rowling and got myself into Chetan Bhagat andMark Twain. it has been a very beautiful journey for me reading these.

Just finished my first book of the year. Spring and summer are busy productive times, so most of my reading us done in the fall and winter. I've been listening to podcasts though so I can keep learning and growing when I'm not reading.

Just finished Joel Salatin's Everything I Want to Do Is Illegal. What an awesome book for anyone that wants to learn about fresh local food and what we can all do to build a local food economy. :)

This sounds like an absolutely fantastic idea! Just one question...
What's a book?
On a serious note though... I feel like I've been spoiled with audio books and ebooks lately. I used to have a little library growing, but I didn't really care to start recollecting them after a flood. I always remember them being the most difficult thing to move. That being said, nothing really replaces the feel of reading a great hardback book. I sometimes wonder if the next generation will even know what paper smells like.

Great idea. To read more books we may need to spend less time on Steemit. LOL and dust off those old covers.

Why not merge the 2? Publish books on the steem blockchain.

fabulous one.

Reading is as necessary to our brains as exercising is to our bodies.

This is indeed a healthy habit more people should add to their lives. I think online time is slowly making people put less time into reading books.

Reading can be very enriching to us because we learn new words and meanings that help us improve our way of speaking and maintain fluid conversations, in addition to generating more topics with people with tastes in common :D

@kaylinart Thank you for reminding people as to why they should STOP Watching TV Programming...................

Also reading is better for right before bed rather than a screen with the blue light emanating. You make a compelling argument for why we should read more. Great job!
