Boss Man

The return to work after a holiday can be a cruel affair. It's remarkable how quickly you settle into a routine of not giving a hoot for anything before being brutally cast back into real life.

Today I returned to work. Below are two potential scenarios depicting how the day went.

14961g67909-picsay_20170530201214074_20170601190127792_20170602184937022_20170602191908213_20170703135531546_20170704181603752.jpg

Time for a catch up?

Of course. I replied before following the boss man to a vacant meeting table.

I took a seat and lounged back, coffee in hand. As I did, I couldn't help but admire the cut of my crisp new royal-blue suit against which, my shirt blazed nova-white. Something akin to an electrical energy surged through my veins now I was back at work, rested and well.

14961g67909-picsay_20170530201214074_20170601190127792_20170602184937022_20170602191908213_20170703135531546_20170704182027037.jpg

We sat, for a moment mirrored in manly perfection clasping our coffees. He leaned forward.

I'll cut to the chase, place has gone to the fucking dogs whilst you are on holiday. I need you to get on it. Sort this shit out.

I grinned my big easy grin whilst plucking imaginary fluff from my cuff.

14961g67909-picsay_20170530201214074_20170601190127792_20170602184937022_20170602191908213_20170703135531546_20170704181603752-picsay.jpg

Don't worry boss man, I've got it.

To emphasise my point I grabbed a marker and leapt to my feet, sketching out an attack tree on the nearest whiteboard. After all, a picture paints a thousand words.

14961g67909-picsay_20170530201214074_20170601190127792_20170602184937022_20170602191908213_20170703135531546_20170704182855928.jpg

The boss man gaped open-mouthed in wonder.

It's... It's beautiful.

He choked slightly before swooning to the floor at my incisiveness.

I heaved him up and roused him from his faint with a couple of good natured slaps from my brawny right hand. I held him closer than a man should for a brief moment and whispered.

I'm back now

14961g67909-picsay_20170530201214074_20170601190127792_20170602184937022_20170602191908213_20170703135531546_20170704181647848.jpg

I stumbled, red eyed into work. I had hardly slept thanks to the post holiday return to work fear.

14961g67909-picsay_20170530201214074_20170601190127792_20170602184937022_20170602191908213_20170703135531546_20170704183103215.jpg

The security guard snarled at me menacingly at me as I flashed my pass.

Good holiday?

I managed to mumble out a yeah, cheers through the seething paranoia and regret that found me back in the building of broken dreams. Wait? Was that an egg stain on my jeans? Flip flippity!

At my desk, I attempted to log into my PC.

14961g67909-picsay_20170530201214074_20170601190127792_20170602184937022_20170602191908213_20170703135531546_20170704183206869.jpg

Hmmph, I was sure that was the right one? Ten minutes of furrowed brow and attempts to kick start my brain finally worked and I was in.

Before me, my mailbox unfurled a sea of red, un-read mails.

sunrise-66954_1920.jpg

Fucking hell.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking.

An hour or two passed. The boss man sauntered past my desk.

Oh ho! Look at that tan! Where've you been?

Despite my enfeebled state I still found the strength to raise a disgruntled eyebrow.

I've been on holiday for the last two weeks!

My customary masculine growl warbled up an octave or two with indignation.

Two weeks? Really? Fooft, well, I mailed you a pile of work. Better crack on.

I returned my gaze to the red seas on my inbox.

I'm gonna need more coffee.

Can you guess which one may have actually been the case?

For more than 15 years, I have been working at home, in British Columbia, Canada, or anywhere I am in the world.
The "boss man" is in Paris and he does not see when I am working and when I am "vacationing".

As I often say:

  • I am never on vacation
  • I am always on vacation

Haha, I like that very much!

I sit very close to mine. sigh. I am always working is what I tend to say.

good luck ;)

Awesome scenario's that you have written there! I go for numer two , feels like monday's....

Now that you mention it, it does feel like any old Monday!

Boss man:

That's it! No reprieve!!!

@meesterboom - judging by your zest for life, I think you would have enjoyed vacation and Returning need to work in a positive frame of mind. So, did you experience scenario 1 then ? Irrespective of what you actually experienced, your message comes thorough loud and clear through the two contrasting scenarios. I would always pick scenario 1 and keep my day positive. Thanks for this thought provoking blog.

Upvoted and followed you.

I would be honoured if you can visit my blogs when you have time. I generally write original content involving my wildlife or travel photos and my musings about them. Your comments would be very welcome and help to enrich my steemit experience. Thanks.

I will happily check out your blogs my friend. As for how it went, I am afraid it was a healthy helping of scenario 2!!

Scenario 1 would be a magnificent affair! :O)

Ouch!! I would not have imagined you to have a healthy helping of scenario 2. I hope you put on that handsome blue shirt and nova white shirt and go for scenario 1 next time :) T

I will do my best to go for it. I will have to buy the nova white shirt and suit first lol!!

Lol. You had me convinced that you had all that lined up. Heh heh. Good to make your acquaintance @meesterboom. Looking forward to your visits to my blogs once in a while. I am too lowly in the Steemit heirarchy to request you to follow my blogs but will do my best to remind you of some good ones so that I can perhaps help in creating a 'scenario 1.5' for your day :)

After almost half a year of interaction, I feel I know you more than most people who know you from your posts. We have, after all, co-authored an epic story in the comments section before. That's not something you do with a run-of-the-mill acquaintance. No, sir. That is a story borne from the bonds of brotherhood. A bond which is stronger than normal Steemit bonds. Add to that, I have just returned from my own vacation, so I definitely have a first-hand look at what you might have gone through. With all that being said, I could answer with confidence only few could match, and as everyone knows, I'm a very confident man. There could only be one ... and the answer is:

I'm sure your boss positively melted after you finished whispering "now" ;)

Oh, and one other thing, I keep forgetting to ask you: what service do you use to upload the images you use? Also, what font did you use for the "Scenario" pics?

HAhahah, oh Scenario 1 would have been splendid but what a fragile creature creature I was at the start of the week!

My font. My damned font??!?!? Next you will be asking for my next born, dammit man!! ;O)

I actually use an android app pixlr for most of my text and it is just one of the fonts that come with it. So I dont really know!

And I hope you enjoyed your vacation dude!

lament

Hahaha! Damnit he's on to my schemes!! I mean, you're on to my ... Yeah, you get it. You've really taken advantage of all those apps! It's great that you've almost outsourced everything to them. Personally, even though I dabble in mobile development, I still prefer creating images from scratch. I might have to ease up a bit and let apps do some of the heavy lifting to increase my productivity though. What photo service do you use to upload them? Is it in-built in the app?

I did enjoy my vacation as well! I wish I could take the whole MRT system home with me, but customs didn't allow it... They just told me to...

lament

I used to create all my images from scratch, I was quite the Photoshop chap. After parenthood though my time became so limited that although that helped my workflow and was quick I grabbed with both hands!!

I do use steemits own upload direct to the post service. I used to use imgur but they have been fiddling with their site so it's harder to use without jumping through hoops!!

Glad you enjoyed it dude!
14961g67909-pi.jpg

Ahhh! I don't want to wait until I become a parent to become more productive. I'm already farthest from productive right now!

Steemit has a direct upload feature now?? Why wasn't I aware of this?? How??

Yeah man, seriously you didn't know? Storyline else was surprised by this too. It's been there for the last five months or something!

In the editor at the bottom of you are in markdown it has an option to select files for upload or you can just drag and drop them from a folder on your PC!!

Holy crap!! Wot the feck!! Cor blimey!! Am I this blind!? I saw it only now!! Crap!! HAHAHA!!! I uploaded images the hard way for the entire length of A Day in the Clouds!!! hahahaha!

From now on in you will be laughing with joy and adding images left right and centre!!

Lol, i've been struggling at work today as well, I'm guessing number two which is how my day has felt. Lethargic!

Yeah, number 2! Its murder coming back after a holiday!

meep

Lol I will go with scenario 2 as it fits you more due to less sleep after writing and commenting on steemit and taking time out to power up..haha

You would be absolutely correct matey chops! The sleep thing is a concern!!

Haha, I agree

I hate the "fear" - generally felt on a Sunday evening, but acutely magnified after holidays.

You made it through the first day, reckon scenario 2 might be most likely :-( But you are a day closer to freedom again!

That is very true, the weekend beckons!!! Scenario 2 was absolutely correct :0)

Work for 18 years in a multinational company, where the bosses are of another culture and dynamics very different to the culture of the Argentine. For this reason every time he went on vacation and back, one did not know if he was still employed.
I lean towards option 2.
I admire the creativity of his work dear friend @meesterboom I am pleased to visit your work.
Have a good week

Option 2 is the right one! You know me too well by now! Thank you for visiting mate!

I was just about to log off when I spotted your post and thought I give it a read... I'm glad I did! You make me laugh and laugh @meesterboom, thank you! Now I go off to my bed not just with droopy eyes but a grin too :-)

Ah you are far too kind although reading your reply has fair put a smile on my face too! Wayhay!! :O)

So you had to go with the number 2. Yeah, I hate going through 500 emails to try to find the real stuff.

It is the worst thing about starting back, the damn email avalanche

haha that's great ! Returning to the grind after a nice Canada day long weekend is never fun ! My Tuesday is my dreaded Monday ! LOL ! Have a great day ! 👍👍👍😂😂😂

You know...I could not believe that Canada turned 150 years old!!!
It's Trudeu.
.
.
.
.
[ i'll see myself out ]

haha ! Yup his son is doing awesome job !!! 👍👍👍

I sure will lass. You are totally right, the dread is rubbish!

Haha ! Agreed ! 😂😂😂👍

:O)

The egg stain on your jeans matches the one on my shirt! We must be related somehow. LOL Well, thanks for the laugh. Now get back to work!

I'm back, I'm back!!! Lol

lol...I'm sure there's a new drug in development.

post holiday return to work fear
Are not happy when returning to work from the holiday? Does your job suck? You may have Normal Working Man syndrome, but don't worry...there's a pill for that!

I like the sound of that pill very much. A lot better than choose the red or blue pill!

I think you enjoy your holiday and did't get much rest thats y

That is the most likely explanation :O)

I always experience the "post holiday return to work fear." I always bookend my vacations with "pre" and "post" holiday fear.

I largely avoid the pre fear but oh boy I get the post fear. Its silly because what could possibly happen but still, it lurks and finds me every time!

I'm choosing number one and I don't want to hear the truth of it. I mentioned recently that I live in the world of my imagination and in that world meesterboom is a rockstar who causes grown men to swoon on a daily basis simply for being so fecking boombastic baby fantastic. In fact when the meester enters a room, Mr. lovah lovah instantly starts playing on every device.

That's exactly what happens in my head too!! Hot damn!! :0D

Today is number 1 defo hehe

Great post. Reminded me of the time I worked at an office and even inspired this poem. Have a great day. Don´t be to stressed. :D

On the first day after vacation
the office is not your favorite location
But you say: Hey!
It´s my first day,
what can go wrong?
I am all new and strong,
my energy is high,
I will not work, but fly!
And then you are at the place
with a sad face.
the first office meeting
is eating
all of the time you need
to get up to speed
with your mails and stuff
man, this is ruff.
And somewhere in the back of your mind
You're planning a trip of some kind.
For the weekend, to get away,
to recharge and play.

Ah what a great poem! It is exactly what you do when you get back!!

Glad you like it!

At my last job I couldn't take a vacation without getting peppered with phone calls and emails from desperate employees looking for answers. My bossman was a bullshitter who didn't know anything about how our department actually ran. My co-worker spent his day flirting with the ladies rather than working. So I was happy when I walked out to start my own business. Those two incompetents had to do some work for once.

I hope they didnt scour the job market and find someone else to take up the slack, these people often do! That is a fine thing to do though is start up your own business with your expertise!

Scenario 2! A mate of mine had the brilliant idea once for coming back from holidays. Just delete all the unread emails. If it's important, they'll email you back. That said, he doesn't work there anymore. Hmm...

Haha, yeah. That's a danger strategy!!!

I almost thought scenario 1 was not fantasy when you did not mention a raise at the end. I mean..if it's all make believe better go all in! :D

PS: good for you, man. Smoking in uk is akin to burning money.

It is like burning money!! When on holiday it's like eating chips!! :0D

Haha! It's like I had to enter my office computer's password around twenty times.
But I have now a little trick to remember my always changing password (n my work, for safety, you have to create a different one every month, which still makes it harder for you to remember it after returning from vacation) and It's as follows:
-Adding always a different last number to the same main body of the password.
Example:

dresden1
dresden2
dresden35

I'm actually with dresden1024, sir :D

My work is exactly the same! The only thing is that when you get to double numbers it throws a tizzy and insists you cant have numbers beside each other so you have to change a letter. Many years down the line I am now looking at the oddest password in the land!

Going back to work after being on holiday should be banned, don't they know you need time to rest after a holiday, so selfish

Exactly! I will go even further and say it should be a crime!!

With yuou on that one, it is a crime, we are human beings we can't need sent off on holiday where we have fun then expect us back to work straight after, we need time took adjust

Totally. Maybe we should be allowed to holiday all year and work for two weeks!!

Now that's a perfect way to get around the problem

It's amazing what we sacrifice when we have a job to have money. We really are JOB (jackass of boss) and basically living their dream. For money and valuable time that you can never get back, we slave for the boss. It's honorable of course and we keep a good attitude, after all , we all have bills and responsibilities. But one has to believe that there has to be a better way!!

There has to be!! I read a horrible thing once that the greatest regret of the dying is that they had worked less and it has haunted me to this very day.

Oops thats a mood killer!

I think number 2 always a thing to go back to work after holiday.

I am exceptionally glad to hear it's not just me!

Hah, oh how I hope for you it's the first one, but I'd imagine it's the second. It's just more realistic you know... During vacation time, IT always receives many calls from people who forgot their password!

The support desk must have been abuzz today!! :OD

Defo the second. I was a shambling zombie today! However I did start to get some vavavoom toward the end

Towards the end huh? Was it the amount of coffee, or the thought of almost returning home?

Dammit, you have called me out. Yes, it was probably the prospect of returning home!

I liked this one

Hehe, cheers mate!

Work is terribly difficult following a holiday, I have been looking for work for a year now & it is just awful - much worse having no work at all - ugh !
LMAN.GIF

Well that trumps it right into perspective! Youre right of course. I hope you find something soon!

Thank you @meesterboom ! WoW, you are a great Steemian ! You have a new friend and follower. Thank you so much again for the generous gift to me :)

It's a pleasure mate. Every little helps, I try to check out people who put a decent comment on my posts and I liked your post very much!

I feel your pain. I'm dreading work next week and I'm the damn boss. People will be asking me a million freaking question and I'll have to make a million decisions. My brain will be toast Monday night. I guess both sides suck the first day back.

They do indeed, Its the pain of returning to the grind mostly!

Classic lol

:O)

Thanks for the information

You are most welcome.

AHahahaha nice post

Cheers :O)

Nice+post.gif

Sadistic, how could you😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Lolz!! It was the stick man! ;O)
