Be a little kinder today

in life •  7 years ago

I wrote to a friend today about coin we used to have talks about. We'll call it "shitcoin" or SHT.
I asked what does he think about his decision to HODL this SHT.

To my surprised, he said that I am laughing at his loss expense and that I am being an asshole. I say surprise cause this is not what I thought I was doing. In fact, I am feeling pretty much under the weather due to all this shitstorm on the markets. Why would I want to laugh at someone...

In fact, I realized that this guy thinks that I am actually using him as a sort of pinata to express some of my own anger and negative feelings these days. Like, telling someone "I TOLD YOU SO!!" would bring me some satisfaction that my portofolio can't. That he think that I am this small of a person that would so such thing. Is this guy even my friend if he thinks so low of me?

I started to furiously write a long angry reply myself. "fuck" was used repeatedly and let's not even mention the rest. But then..I stopped.

Looking at what I wrote, I was disgusted with my self.
After all the talk about being in control of your own life, feelings and action..to be so reactive? Can I not stop a second to put myself in someone else's shoes and maybe ask...is this really an aggresive/mean action or is it something else?

We're all in this together. We're all affected more or less. Even if you do not care about the price, the incertitude and storm will have you feeling STUFF. Good, bad, mostly bad..but you are in a state of some emotional charge. And you are bound to have some unexpected reactions. I know I am. I can only presume we - save for the most veterans - are in the same boat.

What would getting angry and yelling at someone get you?
Remember, this is a friend. a person you actually like and respect. Why not try something else?

Take a moment to breath. A moment to think. A second to relate and a minute to write or say something back. Who knows, maybe you'll see it clearly.
I wish my friends would do this to me.

I realized that by our history, with me being adamant about selling SHT and him saying it's a good HODL my comment might have come as haughty. I said I'm sorry. I am actually interested in how people deal with this kinds of loss and I respect his thoughts. We talked and we're going for depressed burgers sometimes this week.
All can be well.

Holding a SHT coins it's a win-win situation:

  1. It can gives you a big reward.
  2. You can lose all you put in that SHT coin, but if you are smart enough and you realize that you made a mistake and learned from it, it's a win. I think that your friend will realize this soon enough! Cheers Razvan!

Whoa! A rare the-future sight! Cheers dude, nice to see you're still around!!
A win-win is a good mentality, but these day is hard to have that perspective!

I know that these days is hard to have this perspective, but this is the only solution to keep your mind clear and sane. This is the crypto world, and we all assume that we know or at least we understand how it's going to be in the future! So, why to worry now for nothing!

Congrats for becoming aware of the state you were in and that you took a moment to cool down and respond in kindness. You just planted some good seeds so the next time something similar happens it will be easier for you to not even get angry in the first place and respond with kindness and compassion. Kindness rules! :) Thank you for sharing.

Thank Raluca! Is not really a new thing. I'm working on this for a long time now but it's the practice that kills me :)

You’ve gotta call out the shitcoins but as you said once they’ve crashed no need to rub it in. It’s hard to remember though because in a part people investing in these shit coins are hurting those of us investing in legitimate coins.

Nice post!

This was very eye opening

Crypto stuff has always been a rollercoaster ride. But more than the going up and down, I think we’re discovering ourselves and life as well. Money come and go but friendships should be valued much higher.

Good on you to work things out and even say sorry. Some people can’t even apologize coz they’re so focused on the offense.

Have a good burger day 🍔

Well, profit and loss are part of life. Sometimes you earn and sometimes loss, don't get this thing be on your mind and affect your health.

There will be more Sh*t coins @razvanelulmarin to come since crypto is still gaining in popularity, and many are newbies. FOMO, FUD and even Fake News are everywhere and will continue to make this a problem. Glad you finally cooled down and realized that your friend was hurt, probably mostly at himself for his losses, and that he needed support rather than more criticism. Take care Raz.....
full steem ahead!

For starters this highlights what a terrible medium text is, when we talk with each other much if not most of the information we convey is in our tone and body language, without those cues it's easy to misread text. It's almost impossible sometimes to differentiate between someone joking and a complete idiot. The other factor is most forms of social media reward and condone nastiness, you can get a lot more up votes from saying something nasty than you can for saying something nice and a lot of places provide anonymity when posting so that allows people to act even worse. I have had these sorts of conflicts with my own brother over text messages being misinterpreted.

nice post I like

I'm just pretending that coinmarketcap is broken and not really thinking about it to much. So I'm just focusing on future traveling plans and projects for the blog.
Ignorance is bliss :P

Being kind is good but once in a while you can rub it in a bit. Bust some balls in a friendly manner. Depends on the person off course.
