The ART of spreading Magic

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

I've taken to gifting all kind of things to people lately.
Family, friends, acquittance, sometimes strangers, I try to give a little something that I think they need: A book, a game, a coffee. Sometimes it's a bigger gift than maybe appropriate, most of the times it's for no occasion at all.
To give you a little context, I always wanted to surprise people with gift and I always thought that if I ever had money to buy something for someone else, I would. "Why wasn't everyone already doing this!?!" I wondered. So when I could, I wanted to actually walk the walk and tried to do that.
To my surprised, I've been met not with gratitude, or hugs, or even pleasant surprise but mostly with a skepticism. People, even friends, eyed me with suspicion:
What do you really want?, they seemed to ask.

I was baffled at first by this reaction. Are we really so cold that a nice gesture doesn't look even half-normal but clearly a ploy or tool to get something else in return? Is this where our society is right now? REALLY?!
As someone told me....

I mean, sure, maybe that's what life teaches but to me - and I'd argue to all of us here - isn't a bit different?
Think about it, what do you owe to the people upvoting you? Gratitude! It's not a tit per tat, is not a contract, it's nothing really. It's a free meal of sorts at no cost to almost anyone. This is insane. It's insane that it works. But as right now it is, don't we have a duty to give as many free meals as we can?!

We've all been giving by faith, destiny, the uncaring universe, life or luck a huge free meal by being on Steemit so early, but being in crypto so early, by meeting amazing people that helped us. We've all been given so much that not feeling gratitude and a DUTY to give back as much as we can is akin to insulting the very thing we had received. Crypto is a new form of wealth that comes with no strings or morale corruption and it can start a self-perpetuating cycle of gratitude, caring, empathy and good will. It is in our power to use it as such..or not.

I've recently read this in a book and this guy said something that put in words exactly what I am trying to explain here:

I get endless delight covertly “ambushing” unsuspecting strangers with random acts of kindness. So, for example, after ordering my iced latte, I’ll give a Starbucks barista a $20 bill and tell him to comp the person after the person behind me for whatever he or she wants, and to give that person the change as well. I don’t do the person behind me, who might suspect that I was the mystery benefactor.
Then I sip my latte from afar and watch the confusion give way to smiles when the random beneficiary realizes the unexpected bounty. Sometimes the person leaves all the change as a tip. Sometimes he or she will pay it forward and “gift” the next person a free coffee. But the beneficiary always leaves smiling broadly, and I know that I’ve unleashed a positive ripple effect into that person’s community and to anyone he or she encounters that day.
Spreading magic!

How on point!
We are living magical crypto times and we are elevated to magical beings to some extent. We can, we should and we MUST do as much as we can.

SPREAD MAGIC, FRIENDS!

That is so wonderful @razvanelulmarin...awesome how you describe it - 'spreading magic'! I love that phrase which I believe Anne Hibbert wrote: 'Spread random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty'
You are so right, we can do it, the world would be such a different place if we all tried to spread a tiny little bit of magic in our everyday lives!
My favourite gift to others is giving them an experience; tickets to a live show, or a movie voucher, all these make good memories that they will have always.

Beautiful comment! You get my 100% comment vote!!

Wow @razvanelulmarin, did not expect that! Thank you so much, made my day :):)

It's become pretty hard to spot people doing such deeds nowadays that's why the skepticism. People think you're doing it for something in return. I had read it in a book that the world earlier wasn't like this and with times, it's going in this direction. But let's do our best to change that notion. :)

EXACTLY! we do what we can and we see if our actions will multiply in time by the people we touch. If not, it's till fun!!

Yeah! It gives a sense of satisfaction.

Lots of inspiration...give without reason, celebrate love! Help whenever u can...empowering message to free ur mind and heart!!! Thanx

hear hear

You are awesome and I was one of the lucky ones. The book is great :P

Yes the magic is alive here! It is truly exciting times. Big upvote my friend!

I don't know, who cares what people actually think or what your motivation might be? Just do it :)
If something good comes around, it should go around, is what I usually say. Many people helped me until now, so I have to and want to share that with others. Perhaps they will also share it with others as well :)

Great and simple way to think about things. I always value your clear-headness when it comes to things like that!

I was really getting discouraged by the coin hyping, spambotting, vote buying, flag warring, and other greed fueled, degenerate nonsense I've seen on here. But, luckily I ran across a post by @meesterboom that led me to this post, and I feel like it's gonna be all right. Unfortunately, I feel like a lot of other people are not so lucky. Thanks for the inspiration!

this is a very powerful message, actually it's remind me of the says or a verse in a holy bible that states, the hands that gives is the hands that receives. I thinks as a steem community we should emulates such practices as a simple way of expressing our gratitudesaying thank. @razvanelulmarin

Magic the strong. I like your think :)

Thanks a lot. Valuable as it is inspiring. I am very grateful for this opportunity to be on Steemit before it's mainstream. I'm so happy so many have freed themselves from the system and definitely look forward to the freedom this can provide with consistency and empathy.

You are the man!!! I have received the giving and it is awesome. I shall link you in my thank you post!!

Steem can teach a lot of people to be less cynical and more involved and caring. Awesome post man!

Gifts exchange for full maximum joy.
This by our steem system.
Great words man.

Hello , I like it . Upvote and Follow you . .. Please if you do it , I'm so happy. Thank you .

Wonderful read! Empathic and altruistic point of view. If only the inhabitants of that really thin air magical realm, the proud, the few, would feel and think the same, the world could be a better place.

Followed!

I guess it depends on how receptive the other person is.

I love to compliment people, genuine praise with no hidden message whatsoever. The more I compliment, the better I feel. On the flip-side, I also get death stares. 🙃

wait. tell me more about a compliment that got you death-stared!!

I told a foreigner she has cow eyes! Little did I knew that in her country, cow eyes means she has a dead, hollow look a.k.a estupida. I was merely complimenting her big round brown eyes and fabulous lashes. 🙃

I never did say I make conventional compliments.

Ok, honestly cow eyes is such a bad compliment.....:)))
You suck at this.
Sorry :D
Anime eyes though....:P

Or Doe eyes. ^^

getting better!!

Great write up my friend! I have always had that same notion....when I have, I will give! So glad to see you doing it, and I KNOW you are, because you gifted me a gift! It's quite an interesting thing how we began our discussion, and where we are now. What are we....classy trolls? Whatever it is....Brother from another Mother, that's for sure! We spoke about personal posts on steemit the other day, and I mentioned I see that same trend we discussed with others on here. It's an embodiment of our societies...a poor one at that. I don't want my wife on here, because as you know, I'm primarily here for business, although I have found many other beautiful things along the way. She is so honest, and vulnerable in her honesty, and with what I have seen here, I can only imagine disappointment being the outcome for her.

But a post like this is MAGIC, and it is what we should all be striving for. You've got some magic in you, keep spreading it...you're definitely not running low from what I can tell.

I think it is wonderful to give gifts to people, but I also know if that ever happens to me then I feel like I have to give something to that person back even if they did not have any other reason for the gift than brightening my day or making me smile.

I recently was in such situation. There was no way I could give back to that person, but I feel eternally grateful for them in my life and I let them know of that as often I can.

I remember when I first got a job and was able to afford gifts. It was wonderful feeling to be able to do that and I agree, people should gift more often and just be kind to each other.
