What is your car trouble?

I want to give back to Steemit community and provide some help on something that I know very well. Cars and how to fix them.

Please ask me about your car issue. Won't go into gear. Strange sounds. Don't know if you should take your car in to the shop. Just ask.

Send me the make, model, and year along with car symptoms.

Please remember to VOTE and ReSteem

My car is a Honda Pilot 2004. The light signal of the gear doesn’t show. Most times I don’t know if I’m on drive or neutral. It wasn’t like this before but it started about some couple of days ago.

Are all the gear indicator lights inoperable or is it only the D light? If they all don't work, this would point to a fuse or a bad circuit somewhere. If only one light doesn't work, then it is most likely a bulb burnt out in the dash.

Are you ready to take on this project to replace the bulb?

  1. Remove the center dash panel around the radio (it's held on with spring clips) sometimes you can get it started to pop off by working a sturdy rag behind the top left edge (the pointy edge by the steering column) and giving it a tug. They're tough to get loose if it hasn't been off in the past, but will pretty much fly off if it has been apart previously. Disconnect the HVAC and dome lamp over-ride switch connectors and set the panel aside.

  2. Remove the left side dash panel with the power mirror and cruise switches. remove all the phillips screws holding the upper vent panel (including the two that are going up in the meter visor) and remove the vent panel (you'll need to lightly pry the top part of the visor down and out of the upper dash and be careful not to break the left side vent as you work the panel loose) - disconnect the hazard switch and clock (great time to replace the clock lamp while it's out)

  3. four more phillips screws and the meter is out - you'll need to rotate the top of the meter down and out to disconnect the connectors, and then work the meter past the steering wheel.
install in reverse order of disassembly. Pay attention to how the meter visor (part of the center dash vent panel) pops in and up into the upper dash recess, and how it secures along the bottom edge of the meter assembly - get it wrong and it'll bow up across the bottom of the meter lens.

  4. Once out take off lens cover, visor assembly (held in with tabs), and the black overlay.

  5. Flip the cluster over and take off the white cover, held in with tabs.

  6. You need to take out the temp, gas level and gear indicator section on the cluster.

  7. If you look on the circuit board where the temp, gas level and gear indicator are located you will see 4 bent silver tabs. With pliers bend these tabs up, and gently push on the tabs. The temp, gas level and gear indicator section will pop out. You will then be able to see the gear indicator lights.

  8. Gently pull the circuit board down and with needle nose pliers you will be able to pull the light out. Note how the orientation of the light, so you know how to put the new one in. I think it has to be installed a certain way.

  9. Gently push the light in with the needle nose pliers or a small screw driver.

  10. Gently push in the temp, gas level and gear indicator section back in. Make sure it is in all the way and bend back the 4 silver tabs.

  11. Put everything back in the reverse order.

You might want to pick up the bulb before doing this. The part number is 78181-SS0-003.

nice info...
