"Choosing a perfect career in life is the beginning of personal greatness".

Very often I get this question from people “how do I choose a career”? Well in this post I want to share with you how to choose the right career and become successful. This has been a big challenge through the lives of people and very few have been able to identify and choose the right career for their lives.

One of the greatest ways to waste your time in life is getting a job that you are not ideally suited for. It will definitely rub you of your productive years.

Considering a new career path is the best recommendation id give, if you are in that situation. It can be a hard decision to make, considering the uncertainties involved in this decision but with proper guidance and self discovery you’ll definitely be thankful you made the decision.

How then do you choose a career path, ill share with you things you need to consider while choosing a career for yourself and if you critically practice these things, you’ll be on your way to greatness.

  • Think about what you are good at and what you like. You most probably will have bad days at work, if your job isn’t such that you are good at and enjoy doing, you’ll lack the motivation to keep going on those days.

  • Ask yourself this question, “what do I really love to do and what kind of job will give me the opportunity to do this”. It’s really necessary to not spend all your days working in some office; someday you can spend with your family at the beach or with friends letting out some steam. To ensure you can do this, you must choose the right career.

  • After successfully going through he 2 steps above, it’s time now to conduct a research on your chosen industry. Find out as much as you can about the business from the industry leaders (this could be an informal meeting), the position you have in mind and other aspects of the industry. This will make easier the decision making process as this step will supply you with lots of information as well as some contacts in your chosen industry. Here’s a tip network sites like LinkedIn is great source of connecting with people in your chosen industry.

  • Now it’s time to find a suiting position and when you do, it’s pertinent to dedicate your whole heart to doing your job really well. When you commit to doing effectively your job, one of these will happen: the first thing that might happen is you will discover that this is the best career for you (which is rare at the start but it will become clearer as time progresses) or you’ll find that it’s not the right career for you and you should continue searching. Either way you will find much quicker answers to these questions if you commit to doing your job effectively.

If you find out that it’s not the right career for you, simply repeat the process till you find yourself the right career that suits you. It is your primary responsibility to select the job you enjoy and do that because it will give you the ability to use your innate talents and abilities at a higher level. You must find a job that brings out the best and you and inspires you to become excellent.

Good points. Of course, today it is likely we'll have not one, not two, but multiple career choices. The world is changing so fast it is imperative to find the skills that can be used to solve specific problems.

Cal Newport talks about this in his book, "So Good They Can't Ignore You." He makes a strong case that merely "following your passion" is not enough.

Thank you for sharing this important information.

A good book. I think its a combination of passion and disciplined execution.

Its like the different between just practicing a sport and deliberate practice that takes review, time and effort to strengthen weaknesses or capitalize on strengths.

Can you pls explain explain further the application of self discipline I'm career choice. I'm curious to learn from you
