The One Minute Story

in life •  5 years ago

Have you ever been the victim of a rambling storyteller?

A storyteller who was telling a 'story', but was really just aimlessly babbling.

I'm sure you have.

You gave a few sighs, eye rolls & watch checking..

But they had no clue.

Painful situation to be in.

What's worse is when you realize you were the rambling storyteller all along!

Not a positive situation to be in.

And worst, it plummets your likability.

The rambling storyteller is actively avoided like that one person with the hyena laugh.

So how do you prevent falling victim to this?

You practice.

Imagine going to the gym for the first time & trying to bench 300 pounds.

You'll smack the bar right across your chest.

But imagine if you begin with the bar, then 65lbs, 85lbs, 105lbs & so on....

Much easier, right?

Same with storytelling.

Begin with the bar.

Rather than trying to tell a full on story, just tell a 1 minute one.

'A 1 minute story??'

Ya.

1 minute of conscious focus.

Character, conflict & resolution.

That's it.

Keep practicing this exercise on your spare time.

Your storytelling muscle will build.

You will become much more precise with your words.

Overtime, you will work from the bar to the 300 pounds.

You'll never ramble like a tityboy again.

Rather, you will communicate with tact.
