A civil rights activists, poet, singer and a marvelous human being. We dive into one of her great poems.
I was trying to find a picture that really demonstrated what she stood for and what she was trying to teach us all. When I came across the picture above, I fell in love with it.
I try to live every day with that spirit inside of me. To remember that we are different beings but all under one race. To roam the earth with a pure heart and a clean mind would suffice more than the many riches in the world.
The world needs it.
Maya Angelou was born April 4, 1928 and passed away May 28, 2014. Leaving behind biographies, books, quotes and poetry. All which we can all take a page out of and apply to better ourselves.
Even though I happen to be a day late we will still dedicate this post to her and dedicate our hearts to live in a pure form.
Son To Mother by Maya Angelou
I start no
wars, raining poison
on cathedrals,
melting Stars of David
into golden faucets
to be lighted by lamps
shaded by human skin.
I set no
store on the strange lands,
send no
missionaries beyond my
borders,
to plunder secrets
and barter souls.
They
say you took my manhood,
Momma.
Come sit on my lap
and tell me,
what do you want me to say
to them, just
before I annihilate
their ignorance ?
She was a great creative... Left behind a legacy.

Maya Angelou was such a visionary, we could all stand to follow her example and be kinder to one another no matter our differences. The world is a dark place at the moment with many of us divided by our differences, maybe one day we can learn to love each other and learn from each other.

I love her quotes and poems. My favorite is "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time."

Hello @joseph. I am happy I stumbled upon this. Maya Angelou is indeed among the wonderful poets of our time. The depth and breadth of her work speak for itself. To be honest, I have never read this one, so thank you for introducing it to me I will cherish this one. And I will definitely have to read some of your original work seeing that you made this post about Sister Angelou.
Again, a million thanks for this.
