It’s all the rage nowadays to say we shouldn’t say Happy Memorial Day, but I think they’d want us to be happy today. Our happiness is precisely what they gave their lives for! Why would you think they’d want us to wallow in sorrow on the day we’ve designated to remember them with gratitude?
How blessed are those who mourn, Christ explained, but genuine mourning is something much more than an emotional posture. Those of us who’ve lost loved ones in war will always mourn the loss, but it is simply impossible for a human to truly mourn those we did not know.
Pay your respects, revere the flag and all who fell for her, pray for them, their families and their country, live up to their example, be brave, loyal, grateful and proud, and then make it a happy day worth dying for.
