Why should we control WhatsApp in our country?
Almost everyone who uses smartphone use WhatsApp in our country video more than 20 crore people are using WhatsApp. It has become a fashion to forward messages in the next minute without thinking about it. The two not for a single person, they will forward all the groups they have! In this regard the Facebook owned WhatsApp has decided to limiting some of its features in India. In India most of the people and forward the video and picture messages. Therefore WhatsApp is limiting hey user to forward messages like this to a maximum of 5 groups. WhatsApp has told that this limitation is only for India. It has decided to go with a new feature which disables the quick forward button in WhatsApp. People in rest of the world can forward one message to 20 groups at once.
The reason for the limitation of WhatsApp will be the Parliament elections which are fast approaching in the country. WhatsApp has provided the limitation details even to the election commission of India. This limitation is due to the false messages or the anti social messages that are being spread through WhatsApp this days which which has a serious effect on law and order.
There are some more conditions in our society which are being affected by the false messages spread by WhatsApp these days. Innocent people are being targeted by mobs as children kidnappers. Cases like this have been reported around the country.
Why are these limitations only for India? Are we accustomed to hating one another in our public life? Earlier when somebody would enter our town or village or our home, we would have a good regard towards them and welcome them with the most polite manner that we could. If a person was going through difficult times in his life, People were getting together, they would consider that as their problem and would try to solve that as soon as possible. But now if this is unknown people in a town, people would decide them children kidnappers and fraction of second, without thinking the mob will attack them. Why are people changed so much in recent times? In Last seven months there were reported the cases of mob lynching all over the country.
The interest of election commission of India to regulate the false news spread during the elections is valid. But it is not spread only through WhatsApp. There are large number of people who are spreading false news in the society. There are also talk programs in the mass media that make the people's opinions on false news. What action has been taken to take a control on this are being discussed. If you read or watch the crime stories that are being reported in our media one thing will be clear, the media is exaggerating such news presenting to our public.
It is a main quality of democracy to get information and news. In some of the WhatsApp groups there are some good quality discussions about our democracy. There are also people who use these kind of apps for social welfare and creative thinking. The spread of false news and negative thinking has to be controlled and should be taken action against the people who are spreading these kind of things.
Only limitation of WhatsApp will not solve the entire problem. The entire cyber regulation should be empowered.
