Whether a business should remain open isn't a question of whether Whitmer thinks it is essential, but rather whether operating that business is certain to spread the contagion. We should have begun with the question: how do we keep as much of our economy safely in operation, rather than how much can we immediately shut down. This pivotal question exposes the real aim of our current leadership.

It's easy to see the daily death tolls, but it's difficult to see the deaths of despair that will surely follow in the wake of this economic devastation. Dreams are being dashed. People who are bravely battling to keep their heads above the poverty line are suddenly swamped. Entrepreneurs who have poured their lives and life's savings into their enterprises can now do nothing but watch them washed away by the simple stroke of this governor's mighty pen. And to add insult to injury, she's encouraged people to snitch on those who are just trying to make an honest living in ways she's deemed inessential. Don't worry. You can always go on welfare.
