5 Tips to Build Mutual Respect and Understanding with the People in Your Life

in mindset •  6 years ago  (edited)

Hello, dear Steemians!

Respect is the first step towards building the foundation of trust with the people that are in your life. The question is: What characteristics can inspire such mutual respect and understanding?

In one of our previous blog posts in the past week, we talked about the importance of respect among peers and between employers and employees. In today’s article, we will talk about characteristics and mentalities that will grow this bond of trust and respect with the people that you interact with every day.

Respect is not something easily earned, and the same could be said about trust. It takes time, dedication, and energy. Sometimes, you may have to increase your tolerance to earn the respect of your peers and elevate your relationships.

The first step towards realizing a mutual respect between you and the people you know is to understand the importance of your word. Do not make promises you cannot keep.

Your promise is the most important impression that people will remember about you. If you break your promise, that sense of distrust will never leave their mind. Make sure that whatever happens, at the end of the day, you keep true to a word once given!

Another obvious tip to earn the respect of the people around you is to do your job right. You should not stand idly by and wait for directions from your boss or your peers. You should always be one step ahead of their expectations and surprise them with your preemptive excellence.

If you are in a relationship, study the habits and values of your partner and always be prepared to provide them with the comfort that they might expect from a relationship.

Punctuality is another significant lesson in the gameplay of respect. When you respect the value and significance of other people’s time, they will learn to respect yours and give you credit for your reliability.

Do not expect respect if you tend to waste people’s time. This directly correlates with your ability to keep your word. It is not just about tasks or favors where you have to keep your word, but also dates, meetings, and deadlines.

When you are amongst people, always treat as if everyone you know is standing right in front of you. This means that you should never gossip behind people’s back even if that is not going to harm them or their reputation in any way.

Some people who tend to gossip are not obnoxious, but rather they subconsciously engage in the practice of talking about someone, regardless of the fact that they may not be present to lend their own opinion about the matter.

As a result, when you gossip, people will inevitably come to think that you may gossip behind their backs too, and lose their trust in you.

image3.jpg

Perhaps the most important tip in earning other people’s respect and trust is about learning how to respect yourself and your values. We all have a set of values and ideals in our mind, and we should never dare trespass from the boundaries of such values.

If we do that, we cannot learn how to respect ourselves, and as a result, we cannot bring other people to respect or trust us as well.

Safeguard your grace with whatever you can. Do not let go of your values, not even for a single second. Your grace will contribute to your inspiring presence, and that will eventually earn the respect of those around you.

Your willingness to push other people to excel at who they are and what they do will begin at your own doorstep.

Decide to treat yourself well.

Follow these five simple rules and in time, you will hardwire them into your subconscious mind, ultimately earning the respect and trust of the people in your life.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Dear @chbartist sir
Respect is not bought but earned. He also thinks of his good behavior and well-respected people. Should not be too happy to make any promise which should be difficult to keep up later and should not take any favor in favor of the time of separation. Afterwards, life has to be buried in favor. The punctuality of punctuality is the identification of good habits. Honor should be respected, respected by small, should be decency in practice, complete his tasks in a time bound manner, avoid jealousy and blame.
There are some things that we can earn respect and can be good in the eyes of the people.

The respect Is one of the values enjoyed by a person who has ethics and good behavior and does not complete the value system without respect in the person respect is to show appreciation to others by all means to win their love and direct the person respect for others either as a reaction to their respect and appreciation for him

Self respect ✊ is first step to build understanding with other people . In my opinion knowing ourself and learn what thing we dont like people do with us is the key of understanding . for example , if we didnt like people come late , we come earlier, if dont like people talk bad to us or gossip , dont talk bad about people .

knowing ourself with self respect is understanding what other dont like . for respecting ourself we also respect other by not doing what other dont like

It is necessary to respect and understand others. Because respect and understanding are mutual, only respect others, others will respect us. Sometimes don't complain about other people's impolite, but to think about whether we have given others respect.

True I love the quality of the information it is also very powerful to refrain from speaking about people if they are not present. This can do a lot for trust and mutual respect.

You're quite right. We can't guarantee that people won't talk about us behind our backs, but we can try not to talk about them. This is also a reflection of personal cultivation.

Friend @chbartist,you have given very good tips that by adopting our daily routine, we can improve our life and I loved the first one in which you said that do not make false promises to anyone, do not promise that you can not play .

Thank you

@chbartist, Yes, Respect is one thing which cannot be earned but in an Evolutionary way someone develops that essence upon us, and one thing is really true and that is, never give promises with which we cannot stand because, if we fail to stand with the promises then we will lose both respect and trust. Stay blessed. 🙂

Wishing you and your family an blessed year of 2019.

I also think that transparency it an important characteristic to demonstrate when seeking respect. Team working together need to know and have available all of the information to act accordingly and in conjunction to achieve goals and objectives.

Hi @chbartist

To add to your points, people see us with respect and understanding if

-we walk our talk
-we are humble
-we are honest
-we take responsibility for our actions

I brainstormed and came with the above points based on my past experiences.

Thanks

Very good Sir, we should take an oath on the New Year that we will not make any false promise to anybody who will ever fulfill any promise

It's been a long time. Like you rightly said, it takes time, dedication and energy and even tolerance to earn respect. That means one shouldn't feel bad if his/her efforts to earn the respect of people around him/her is not yielding any measurable result at the start.
But trying to impress someone, can it still be passed as an effort to earn that someone's respect?

On the off chance that somebody works superbly, let them think about it. Truth be told, told everybody about it. Transparently praise somebody for a vocation well done, particularly in case you're an administrator. Representatives will work more enthusiastically and more joyful realizing their chief has a shared regard for them and will offer acclaim and thanks when it's merited.

A thankfulness well done holds the great lingering flavor for quite a while. You need the person to convey home the inclination. You need him to encounter the vibe great and that is the reason you need the correct word to convey that experience to him.

It's truly a resplendent reality, where we live.....the vital role of trust & respect can't be ignored in our lives....the exceptional quality of understanding others as well as yourself & showing proper gratitude towards their opinions, is what really makes us human...Thus respect is undoubtedly an essential element in the long run...I can only ask you to cherish this beautiful inborn humanity...

Love from @muhtasim-zawad ....

Good Morning

The importance of respect is so vital that it must be affirmed from the beginning, respect is not imposed ... it is earned ...

When getting involved in a relationship, be it of any kind (love, family, work, etc.), there must be empathy with the other person and try to understand the different points of view of others.

As you say, if a person speaks badly of another person with the person with whom you relate, sooner or later you will end up losing trust and, what is worse, calling you insensitive, intriguing and gossip.

There have been relationships that do not flourish or lengthen in time precisely because of that, because they lose respect, and once that is lost, there is nothing else to do, since everything is over.

It is important to give people the same respect and consideration that we expect to receive from them, that in addition to earning respect, shows the values we have as a person.

regards...

Respect is one thing i know all humans crave, no matter our differences we all wanted to be respected whether its in our working place or at home. I also want to suggest one rule, which is consistency. Being consistent in whatever task you are assigned or whateve position you are occupying make people trust you, as you have consistently earned their trust.

I love this, helps in a hard time, love to be part of the community. will keep reading. thanks for having such a gift to give and share

This is a topic of great concern more than we care to admit. It has soured many a relationship. You can't have respect without empathy. You must care about more than yourself to see the value in others.

Respect and trust both are the things which took years to build to take few seconds to break.

Thanks for this awesome article and the material you write in this article . Once again you write what I really want in my life.

@ajks

Great post!, Yes, is very prudent to approach others and pull them into your life. For who knows? One day you will need a help from someone. In society, the best way to stay in peace and not in piece is create good raports with others.

Do respect all is first lesson of life.
Good tips in article. thanks for sharing.

The gossiping part is the aspect I struggle with. It is so easy to justify your own opinion when someone is not around because the person you are currently talking to may agree with you and feed your ego. I struggle with this especially since I have a lot of controversial viewpoints that my family / coworkers do not necessarily agree with. Thanks for the post! I would like to be added to the list of contributors I just got started on steem...@zydane

I'm Including you. Thanks, You Are Welcome!

Truer words have never been spoke!! For me I have no problems maintaining relationships but starting one is very difficult. I also think worthy of mention as a guide to building successful relationships is
Understanding the perpestive or point of view of your partner. We may come from varying backgrounds and culture, resulting in different understanding, ideology, or concept of life in general. Sometimes this difference may be damaging to the relationship, now the question is ; how do you try to educate a friend about a certain belief of his or hers that is wrong. Can you risk breaking a bond?

We just have to live in the context of the "Golden Rule". If we want to be respected, then respect others. If we are not respected, respect ourselves. Respect is earned not begged. If we lost respect from others, work hard to gain once again though it's hard.

Another absolutely readable and instructive post from you @chbartist. I have made almost exclusively positive experiences with this procedure, however, there are again exceptions as always in life, there are actually people who sometimes do not appreciate it and perhaps even misunderstand it or exploit it even that one must know.
The respect of my old employees I have almost 100 percent still today although it is years ago that we have worked together, but apparently I have proved worthy to get their trust and respect.
Of course I was always there for them no matter what situation they were in, and most of the time we were able to solve the problem, sometimes it's hard but it's worth the effort.

The greatest gift you can give someone is giving them your full attention. Your uninterrupted presence reflects that nothing is more important than them right now. That is the strongest form of respect.

When someone wants to speak to you, put down anything that can distract you and make eye contact throughout the conversation. Focus only on the person in front of you and what they have to say.

There is an immense power in the word “thank you”. An authentic “thank you” is like a magnet that attracts respect.

Time is one of the most valuable commodities of our time, we can spending it only with people we regard as special. Wasting someone’s time is thus one of the worst forms of disrespect.

Respect means that you value the other person and deem them to be important. Respecting someone can be as simple as being present and really listening to what they have to say...

Strong relationships are built on trust, respect, and honesty....

Amazing @chbartist....!!!

This is true.

Dear chbartist and his followers,
I just waiting from a long time like this kind of article, finally got it. Thanks a lot for this great one. Firstly I'm sorry cause I'm not gonna talk about this post, but I hardly believe that we are all here to help each other, I just need some suggestion from you all.
I'm so respectful to everyone, and easily able to get anyone respect and faith, but I'm fail to keep promises that i given because of my communication gap, and my faith is not support me to keep promise, that's way I becoming unrespectful to others, and it's making me so much frustrated.
Although I try my best to keep promise but I failed again and again.
Dear chbartist, praying for your suggestion.
