Su...ccess Story #6: Jack Ma and the Story of His Many Rejections

in mindset •  6 years ago  (edited)

Hello, dear Steemians!

The person known as Jack Ma in the western world was born under the name of Ma Yun in the year 1964 and in the Zhejiang province of China.

Ma had a difficult and unstable childhood because of his parents’ political activities. If we decide to summarize his life story with only three words, ‘rejection’, ‘perseverance’, and ‘success’ would be the winning nominees, but his inspiring actions move beyond the boundaries of simple abstract concepts such as these.

This is the story of how Jack Ma became one of the richest people in the world.

image3.jpg
img src

In primary school, Jack Ma often failed his primary tests which made the whole process of education a burden to go through. He also stated in an interview that he failed three times for middle school and had a difficult time attending it.

After that, he tried to continue his education in universities, but got rejected because he did not qualify. He took the entrance exam four times before being able to proceed with his education.

He then tried to enter the world of business and have a career of his own, but he got rejected 30 times.

Jack Ma went to the police, but they told him that he wasn’t good enough for the force. He also went to KFC, which had just arrived at China. 24 people had applied for the job. 23 people got accepted. Jack Ma did not make the cut.

Now, you may have already started laughing at this absurd story, but the journey of Jack Ma and his rejections does not end here.

image1.jpg
img src

Ma tried to apply for the Harvard University but got rejected 10 times before letting it go.

In the early 1995, Jack Ma became interested in the phenomenon of internet. He tried to search for entries about China and its economical infrastructure, but was surprised when he found none.

China did not have a prominent presence in the internet and it was then that Jack Ma first got an idea for a company of his own. He and his friends created an ‘ugly’ website related to China and Chinese products and soon got the attention of several investors.

Jack Ma eventually went on to create many websites for Chinese companies and proved to them that the internet existed!

image2.jpg
img src

He eventually founded the Alibaba Group which is now an international conglomerate specializing in ecommerce and technology.

Jack Ma has a famous saying attributed to him. ‘How can you be sure there is no chance for success when you are not willing to try?’

Friends, ask yourself this: What sort of spirit or mindset compels a person to accept rejection for so many times and still have hope for success?

Would we also do the same?

How many rejections would it take before we finally gave in?

Three? Four?

When people see failure or rejection, they come to conclusion that something must be wrong with them. Imagine how Jack Ma must have felt. But he went on. He persevered.

image4.jpg
img src

With a net worth of almost $36 billion, Jack Ma is now known as one of the most successful entrepreneur and businessmen of the modern economic landscape, and is often ranked as one of the wealthiest people in the world.

He might have been a police officer now, or a scientist alumnus of Harvard University, but he must be proud of all the rejections that he has gone through for his current situation.

Embrace rejection and failure. It will do nothing but help you find the success that you have always wanted!

A BIG HUG!

Excellent review, my friend and you are right, many things happen in our life that at first glance seem ridiculous and offensive, but sometimes such things motivate us to more action and finally we achieve success! Thank you @chbartist

all you are saying, turn your failures to experience and try again until you get success.

Oh yes @chbartist, a very instructive story, I completely agree that there are such cases of failure that lead us further on our way to success. The main thing is never to give up and constantly make attempts to action, in the name of our victory!

Story of Jack Ma is very inspiring. The best to learn from it is that we must consider rejection as an opportunity and shouldn't ever give up. Keep on trying without worrying about rejection or failure will surely take us to a good position and Jack is biggest example. Currently Alibaba is the biggest Market place and its valued huge in terms or financial numbers. Thanks @chbartist for such a motivational post.

My opinion if you truly believe self nothing effect your failures every failure give you new chance for success first key of success your failure. You are given nice example.

I often say there is a reason for everything and this is a great example and it was due for greatness! Failing is never a problem unless you don’t get back up, so it’s not about falling down but how well tou rebound as per this experience.

I have been failing at Weight Loss Coaching for 8 years now and will not give up until my dying breath. I was a fat 4 year old and finally lost "half my size" at the age of 50 using natural methods.

When I first saw the BMI chart in the early 1980's I was one of 15% of obese Americans. When I lost my weight in 2011, 35% of Americans were obese. Now that number is approaching 45% in 2019.

I fail at making money in this life of trying to help others and the stats can get me down. But then someone tells me they were inspired by me to make changes and I gain strength to carry on.

My life of obesity was so needlessly hard. If I can only help one more person. It will all be worth it and then I will look for the next one after that.

Damn! Inspiring though. I am shocked from number of the rejections he faced. and that kfc rejection out of 24 people was a bit funny too, but extremely upsetting. For instance anyone would have given up. but I must say the tendency of sticking up and not giving up is enormous and that only had made him great.
I am happy you shared such an inspiring story, keep it up!

i am shocked from number of the rejections he faced.

Saludos @chbartist!

Thanku @chbartist I am very grateful that you include my idea in your words and sir Jack ma is also great inspiration for our youth
Thanks

Rejection is directly proportional to persistence for those who want to succeed. The more rejections the more persistence. If we acquire this formula, the answer to the equation will be solved.

Most of the people really underestimate this guy for his career and rejection, he had the luck not on his side most of the time, but he pushed harder and harder to push trough it. Never give up!!

I want to be a contributer, you can add me to your list.

What do you do with 36bil?

Very Good Motivating Story , This story motivates and he became role model for many others now

Nice post sir @chbartist
I believe in making each failure and act of rejection count. Jack Ma Did not keep repeating the same unfruitful act hoping it would work out one day! Rather for each blow of failure and rejection, he went back to the drawing board and reviewed his strategies! He tried different techniques after thoroughly thinking things true. His failure were not empty failures but fruitful failures. So as we embrace failures and setbacks let me them fruitful by going back to reexamine or techniques and fill up loopholes.
I really admire Ma....
Thank you for this post sir @chbartist

I am personally very inspired with Jack Ma's journey and success story. He really come this far to be at where he is today... my full respect! There are so many people in China who is willing to work their hearts out because they are so inspired by Jack Ma.

I am 24 and I have been trying different things with life. Most of which didn't work. At first, I felt like I was losing focus and I didn't have a vision. And Sometimes I feel like I might not be able to break through in life.

But, life is getting clearer now and I keep going. Even when I am scared, I do it scared.
With perseverance and dedication, I know success will come. Thanks for sharing this @chbartist and have a nice day

Very informative! I'm fairly new here, revisiting after a while, and I love your posts.

what is "ugly" website in these post context?

Hello @chbartist!

More than learning to tolerate rejections, we have to learn to decipher the message behind each failure, because the purpose of the failures is not to harm or block us, these are just consequences of the failures. The purpose of the failures is to teach us and help us to evolve as people in any area.

The message that Jack Ma found from my point of view, is that we should not continue doing what everyone does, but find new things with which we can contribute to the world. And that was what happened with Jack Ma after so many rejections, I think he received so many negative responses because maybe he was not very competent doing the things that others do, and he also had a lot of competition.

But instead, he found a new market niche and with the new possibilities of changing things in China, and that is why he is now so successful. That is why it will always be important to give space to innovation in our lives.

Jack Ma once said "today is a hard day and tomorrow will be even harder, but the day after tomorrow will be easy because everyone dies tomorrow evening", this one quote has motivated me so much in life, thanks for this wonderful post

wao, what a great example ... I would not have insisted so much, and as you mention, many times we think that if we fail so many times in something, it is because we do not have the capacity to achieve it, I liked this story. Thanks for sharing!

good morning,

incredible history of that man, overcame, to a quantity of incredible rejections, that being honest, very few would endure.

The story of this man, shows what we all really should do, persist, persist, insist, and never give up, the key to his success, could be reached precisely because of this, forever looking for his dream, until finally he could reach them
