I too am fairly new to mining (less than 1 year experience) but based on my understanding, CPU does not mine very quickly. However, if you'd still like to try your hands on mining with your i7 CPU, I'd suggest Nicehash. You could you this (https://www.nicehash.com/?p=calc) to calculate the profitability and this (https://www.nicehash.com/?p=nhmintro) to download the Windows client and mine away... Hope this helps!
