Heartbreak and Aging

Mother's Day was a rough one.
I took my daughters over to the Assisted Living to see my mom.
They've been away at school since early January, and so, it has been a while since they last saw her. in fact, mom wasn't living there yet, when they last saw her. Mom's lost about 10 pounds since the girls visited last. And much of her memory and even conversation is changed.

It was hardest on my youngest, I think. She has spent the majority of her summers with my mom. They were fairly close. And it was difficult for my girl, seeing mom, I can tell. Mom's a shell of herself, really. Not the same, except trapped somewhere deep inside her mind.

But, in no time, my li'l one was joking and chatting.
But she knew... mom was different. She carried on, and stepped up, but...

Still, heartbreaking.

thanks... a challenge for the girls, for myself and Dianne as well.

Such a terrible disease. As a care giver for my mother-in law everyday is a new adventure. And not in a good way.

I know exactly what you mean!
