I went for a walk with my mother in law this afternoon. She just signed up for a gym membership at our neighborhood gym, so we walked to the gym together and worked out. Since I got married back in 2015, we’ve had a multi-generational household. Mother in law lives with us full-time, and so does her sister. This is pretty typical in Latin American countries but it’s rare in the US.
I’m not sure why, because it’s a pretty cool setup.
Most people don’t really understand the true meaning of “family” because they only see their family members once every few years. That’s not much of a relationship. I see random business colleagues—who work in entirely different industries—more often than that!
Visiting your parents or grandparents once a year is….tragic. How is that considered “normal,” while having a multi-generational house considered abnormal? I guess it depends on your perspective.
Anyways, currently working on getting my mom to move down (at least for half the year!)
