Growing up in the early 90's you'd have to had been living in a cave under a rock to not hear about this new "gangster rap" sound coming out from the east and west coast mega cities. It was a guilty pleasure of mine when I was younger for sure, with my old man being chief of police and being raised in a middle class white family setting.
Depending on the flavour of gangta rap you're listening to it can be very empowering or downright dark and criminal.
