My Sweet Potato Dream 2018: Week 6

Hey what's up? Big changes here on the sweet potato front. Just before starting this post, I pick off a few sweet potato slips.

When removing a slip, carefully twist at the base until it is loose enough to pull out.

After you have removed the tallest slips, place them in a jar of water. I filled up the jar pretty high, but you certainly don't have to submerge them that much. Lest you want a lot of roots.

These spiky bumps on the slip are root nodes (I think that's what they are called). Those are where the roots will grow from. You will see these root nodes in spots all the way up the slip.

Once submerged, the root nodes kick into action and you will see roots growing within the same day. You'll want to replace the water about once a day. You can transfer them to soil when the roots are at least an inch long, but I'll let them go a bit longer than that. I still got a bit of time left for its hot enough to plant them outdoors, because after all this is the great white north. I have to do things a bit different to grow this tropical crop here.

Update

I decided to twist off the fourth tallest slip and apparently being that part of it had been submerged in the water, developed its own root system. A pretty bad ass one too!
