The Wright Electric company, ‘partner’ of easyJet, has launched a program to develop the engine for a 186-seater electric plane, which will be called ‘Wright1’.
For a commercial aircraft of this size, a 1.5 MV electric motor and a 3 kilovolt inverter are needed.
The company has made a presentation in New York where it has shown a model of the engine and the fan and it is estimated to test its engine in 2021 and the plane in 2023.
Even so, we will have to wait a little longer because they do not count on the plane to enter service before 2030.
For EasyJet, this engine “will be the precursor of aviation of the future, aimed at zero emissions in Europe and in the world.
