Hi guys this is a story you wouldn't want to miss
for anything. Sit back and enjoy.
Funsho was a boy who lived with his mother
in a two bedroom flat apartment in Rivers State,
his father was late. He was a 300l student of
Theatre Art,Madonna University.
On this faithful day his school was celebrating
rag day. If you schooled in Nigeria you know
what that day is all about.
He got home and opened the door with his
keys with one of his hands, while the second
hand was holding the big Milo can he used in
collecting money. He dropped the things in the
sitting room and went straight to the kitchen
because he was extremely hungry after the long
and stressful exercise.
He opened the pot on the gas cooker and saw
"Efor riro"(vegetable soup),he looked into the
cooler by the side of the cupboard and found
pounded yam there. The food was still hot,
because the mum prepared it not too long
before going out.
Normally he and his mum eats lunch together
but because of the way the worms in his
stomach were behaving he had to eat alone. He
took some soup and the biggest wrap of
pounded yam in the cooler. Before Jack
Robinson could be said he had leveled the
mountain before him..
He washed the plates and put them in the rack
and went to the sitting room to finish his
business. He emptied the Milo can on the floor
and started straightening out the notes as well
as wondering why some people still use coins.
The money was a total of five hundred and thirty
five naira (fifteen naira were coins) ..Not bad he
thought to himself. Due to the rate of tiredness
and heavy meal he consumed he didn't know
when he dozed off ..
The mother was rushing to get home
knowing fully well that her son would be back
and waiting for her for them to eat lunch
together. She opened the door with her keys
and the first sight she encountered made her to
start crying and screaming outside
" Ara adugbo e gbam mi o" (Neighbours
please come to my rescue o)
Some group of her neighbours sitting outside
their own flat started asking her what the
problem is. And she said
"Awon tin won sa tele me ti mu omo mi oo"
(Those running after me have gotten hold
of my son).
The man couldn't get what she was saying so
the second man interpreted for him. By this time
her neighbours were coming out in their
numbers.
"my pikin don dey mad oo" she said
"mad ke, Oya make we go see am". Nobody
moved the man repeated, "make we go see the
pikin wen dey mad". Then the women asked him
to take the lead.. He and the second man
decided to go see for themselves while the
women were consoling Iya Funsho.
Getting to Iya Funsho's flat they met Funsho
sleeping like a baby peacefully on the floor.
Wearing torn tee shirt which was previously
white, Jeans trousers of which one leg was
rolled up to his knees and the other was down,
two new white socks were worn on both legs,
two different types of sneakers andcolour(green
and red), his face was painted with makeup
which looked like the job of a child playing with
crayons.
The men were scared to go closer, they
found a mopping stick by the side of the wall
and used it to touch him calling his name.
"Funsho,Wake up " He woke up and was
surprised to see his neighbours in their flat.
"Your mama say you don dey mad na true? "
One of the men asked.
"Me mad ke? How come? " Funsho said
The man replied "I nor know oooooo na wetin
your mama tell us".
Funsho started laughing making the men to
be scared the more. He heard the mother crying
and people talking outside,so he stood up and
the Two men flee outside. When the people
outside saw the two men running out they flee
to different corners of the compound and hid
themselves.
"Ah ah Funsho ta ni mo se"(Funsho who
have i wronged?).
"maami, mi o ya were"(mother I'm not
mad) . "Maami, e dide n'le, mo ni mi ya were"
(mother stand up from the floor i said I'm not
mad)..He started removing the torn cloth, used
it to clean his face. He dropped the trouser
down. The mother was just looking at him, the
neighbours started coming out of their holes
one after the other.
"Rag day la n se ni school "(it's rag day we are
doing in school ) Funsho said.
"Rag day? Ni won wa ni pe ke Mura bii were?"
(rag day? And they asked you to dress like a Mad
person?) the mother asked.
"MI o ya were, maami".(mother i am not mad)..
The mother was relieved, she stood up from
the floor checked him from left to right, back
and front like a commodity that is to be
purchased all of a sudden she started
announcing
"omo mi o ya were, Jesu o se o"(my son is
not mad, all thanks to Jesus).. She started
dancing to an imaginary tune..
The neighbours were murmuring beneath their
breath "which one be rag day again? All these
children no go kill person. Yesterday them say
na old school day today na another one they
carry come, Rag day.. Who rag day don help??
