Fear of mind: A hijackingsteemCreated with Sketch.

We have all heard of mind hacks by now, ways to trick the brain and body into performing better by manipulating the coding but, most are much less willing to admit that that they themselves are being externally hacked and manipulated.

Like a parasite that embeds itself into a host to control its mind to serve its purpose, we too are open to such manipulations yet the parasite is an illusion, a delusion, a psychological virus. We want to be free but if our minds and emotions are controlled, freedom becomes an impossibility.

Fear me

One of our oldest emotions and drivers of behaviour is fear. It is a highly motivating feeling and is designed to protect us from all kinds of physical threats to our person. It stops us falling off cliffs and being eaten by dangerous animals. It curbs our actions and makes us think a little deeper to check if what we plan is safe for us and those we care about.

But as life becomes more physically safe we are increasingly using the circuitry of fear in the realms of psychological and emotional protection. This is easy to do as we are also increasingly identifying with our thoughts and feelings. This identification make our concepts and feelings a part of us and when these things are questioned, we feel attacked.

And, while we are doing this to ourselves, it is also being mustered along by authorities looking to control our actions. Hijack the minds of the masses and it is relatively simple to get many people supporting a range of suggested behaviours.

Scared of Nothing

The easiest way in to the mind is by creating a sense of fear by making someone feel unsafe. The human is continually on the quest for security through food, shelter and companionship but now also include peace of mind onto the list. Rarely is the question raised whether there is such a thing as security at all, let alone security of things as transient as emotions and thoughts.

If however, an authority can create the illusion that there is such a thing and offer possibilities to attain it, many will buy-in as that is what the circuitry craves. Once the mechanism is in place, whenever the authority has the need, all they must do to get believers to act is to take away the peace of mind and replace it with fear of mind instead.

This means that we start to rely on an authority for our security and are willing to continually rollback our freedoms by placing the responsibility of our safety into the hands of others. Our increasing willingness to do this results in a host of issues with the number one being, a lack of security.

Counter-intuitively stolen

It is interesting that the security we desire is actually reduced by those who sell the illusion of security. There are many sides but basically, when we do not practice the responsibility of self and feel there is security, we open ourselves up to danger without the tools to see or act. We are blinded by the illusion.

Another point is that when we have outsourced our security, we then have to trust that those who manage it do a good job and do not change the rules. This is of course highly unlikely as the job is impossible, the reason they sold the illusion was to satisfy their desires and that requires changing our behaviours. As soon as we buy-in, we are tying our actions to their wills and their wills are rarely in our best interests and normally create more conflicts over all as they understand how to profit from uncertainty. Our uncertainty.

You, Me and Them

The real issue in my opinion is the allowing ourselves to be hijacked by being unwilling to explore our personal nature. What I mean by this is that the vast majority of us will not invest into understanding who we are and this means we open ourselves to being told who we are and who we should be. Then we buy-in to the labels, identify with them as us and then protect them as if they are our heart.

We form various groups based upon the various beliefs and actions we have incorporated as ours and then look to keep them stable or growing by not questioning ourselves but attacking the positions of others. This is a third method of control used by the authorities, polarisation. Once there is a range of various beliefs people identify with, it is very easy to turn one against the other and profit from the chaos.

Essentially, what happens is that by choosing to believe that security is possible and that someone else can provide it, we open ourselves up to an decrease in security both physically and mentally. Physically it comes through the polarisation and the fight for what you believe mentality that has been sold to the masses. Psychologically and emotionally it comes through the constant barrage of manipulators that drive fear, uncertainty and doubt.

Cut the wires

If we could see how we are manipulated and the costs we pay due it it, we are much more likely to investigate and disconnect our circuitry. To do this though will invariably uncover that security itself is an illusion and for many, that is a high cost to pay as they think they are losing security. Instead, by recognising and disconnecting, they are actually going to gain security as the knowledge and tools will be there to become adaptive to change, not reactive to illusions.

there is a lot of detail that can be added and a whole lot more questions and concepts but I think that part of the process in taking responsibility and disconnecting is the action of learning for the self rather than relying on external education.

This discovery process creates a much deeper and sensitive view and rather than conformity to a group, it is transformation through thoughtful interaction and conversation with many individuals. With the variety and diversity of people, this will inevitably mean that thoughts and emotions will be challenged and at times it will get uncomfortable.

If your mind is shifted by this process even slightly, it is proof that there is no security in thoughts and therefore what you think you are, may not be you at all.

We are being hacked constantly and most of the time people are not even aware of it, because they are distracted or do not know themselves well enough to see the patterns of the hack.

Fear has been used all the time. All we have to do is to look at our past. How come we have not learned much since forever? Is it so deeply rooted in our core? Either way, we all have to work with ourselves to not be blind sheep that can be manipulated and ordered around like mindless drones.

I think the reason we don't learn is because we believe that we are too smart and 'it can't happen to us' as we know that it has happened in the past. We know, but don't learn the processes involved hence for the majority, mindless drone is the position.

Hi,

I love what you have to say here but arguing that we are constantly being distracted from engaging in personal agency by larger groups and forces. But what I want to address here is another side of the coin which rarely gets mentioned. This is what the late Marxist thinker Erick Howbsbaum referred to as the "Invention of Tradition" in the book of the same title.

Basically power elites, where ever they may be , deflect persons from gaining mastery over their own lives and security and they have been doing it for a long time. One example he gives is the state of British Crown both before and after the coronation of Queen Victoria which ended with her death in 1901. Before her ascension to the British thrown , the monarchy was seen as moribund and this lack of vigor made the masses more willing "to try some thing else," perhaps a social revolution. The elites knowing that this institution was crumbling, began investing pageantry and a circus like atmosphere into the monarchy that it didn't really have before that time.

It worked. And we see the results.

I am Australian myself so unfortunately I was (in Finland now) subjected to way too much Royal this and that on the news stands. Traditions themselves are brilliant manipulators need not be continually repeated as parents teach them to their kids.

Very true tarazkp!

Love how you subtlety point out all the self-help gurus out there are really just salespeople.

self-help can't be 'do what someone else suggests' in my opinion.

They are religious people as well.

the hunt for security seems sorta like an escape. I don't want to pay attention to my present moment, so I'm gonna find someone who will stand guard for me. people need to wake up.

This is exactly what it is. Avoidance of reality in order to grasp at an illusion and trained expectation. Waking up is the key, knowing one is asleep the catalyst.

Very interesting topic, the mind is a strange creature, trying to trick me into thinking I am my thoughts whenever it can... sucking me in the story... but it is okay.. no resistance.. part of me doesn't want to let go completely yet... ..but I accept it..:)

Very interesting content you write, I keep an eye on your blog for more..:)

It's wonderful to see how magick (mind hacks) are becoming more and more accepted by mainstream thinkers. I tend to think of the brain as an amalgamation of tools we can use to travel the path we want to walk. All we need is perspective to actualize it. The more people like you we have sharing ideas like this, the greater our collective potential becomes. When more people learn how to nudge themselves to a better future, our collective trajectory heads in a much brighter direction.

I think the key is maximizing agency for each individual. If you're interested, check out my latest Steem article, The Sorcery of the Spectacle. For the past year I've been campaigning in various places (mostly Reddit) to teach that agency is a skill and the various methods one can use to flex/build it. It's like a muscle; if you don't use it, you lose it. We need more people like you speaking up about how to break away from manipulation and unconscious lifestyles.

Man, I love your writing! I see that you are always trending in philosophy and I think you totally deserve it :)

I like the overall theme of the post. I agree that we are easily fooled by what soceity deems "correct" and fear of breaking these moulds that they place for us. However, I do not believe authorities create polarisation in society. I believe it is human nature to distrust things that are foreign to them. When we roamed the plains of Africa, homo sapiens stepped with caution. We see this caution today not only in race relations but also in the trivial, say a new website layout or a grocery store rearranging their isles. What WE as humans, need to do is constantly put ourselves in situations that go beyond our comfort zone. Make an active effort to learn about other people, and to expect the unexpected.
tl;dr Polarisation occurs from our natural response of caution. We must constantly work to accept uncertainty and differences in our world.

As one more of your very lucid and always highly eloquent articles. This one of today in particular, deserves to be at the top of the pedestal of the universal coherence.

I really loved your post!

very interesting and I experienced it when I was in a group of a particular sect. Now, I am free and see the world in a new lense. This post really tells me of what happened when you are controlled and being told by authorities what to wear as your underwear-a religious conformity.

This is amazing!
