Uh oh, you might end up wishing you never asked. đ
I had German shepherds as a kid. I havenât had one since 2012, The Rook, she was all black and weighed 105 pounds. She was so big for a female, a female averages 67lbs, the best Dang dog ever!

Iâve been waiting in anticipation of my master plan. First was to withdraw from the work world, that took a lot of time, prep, and forethought. Iâm a chess player, just thought Iâd throw that in there. Then I wanted to get at least 2 years of world travel in. See, I couldnât have a dog while planning my escape from the rat race, nor while traveling. Weâre Ca rly 2 year into this 2 year journey.
Then I met Pura.
All the while master minding the next phase in my lifeâbreed my own German shepherds. Before I return to the states, Iâll make one last stopâa trip to Germany and get my first male, a Black and Tan. Already got the breeder, his dogs have clean hips, his females only birth twice and then theyâre retired, and they all live avg. 14 years. Then Iâll go to the second breeder, theyâre in Chattanooga, and get my first female, a sable.
Only two litters per female. Thatâs it. Everything will be done with love and profession. By the time I get to about 4th or 5th generation, the training facility should be nice and Iâll have giant, gorgeous attack dogs thatâll rip your throat out while at the same time, lick a toddler in the face and run side by side with pura. Cha ching! My passion will be in full swing, Iâll sleep good, theyâll be worth a fortune, and a whole bunch of German shepherds will have a great life.
Omg, what a beauty & gentle giant The Rook must have been! I never had a full black GSD, only a pure white one my parents had when I was a child.
Bookmarked to return with a quality reply.
I pinky promise!
Have a very Merry Christmas!

I kept waiting for her to speak English but it never happened, brilliant dog that Rook was! Iâve been patiently planning for nearly 9 years now for my next venture.
Thank you, @ninahaskin. See you when you get back. No worries if you donât make it, that was a long responseâI know. Can you tell I love dogs? đ
I almost forgot.. Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.

Thank you very much!
Do you and Pura have any plans for Christmas while you're in Rome, an unforgettable midnight Mass by chance?âď¸
And I pinky promised to give a proper reply!đ
I have soooo many GSD stories to tell!
YOU might end up being the one sorry to have brought it (GSDs) up!
Hey, random thoughtđ
We might want to create a new GSD or doggy hashtag...

Midnight massâIâm going with answer D, @ninahaskin.
A: Yes.
B: No.
C: Itâs the thought that counts.
D: Both B and C.
Not sure if this is a safe place to say this, itâs just you and I here, right? đ Rome means Catholic. What I mean by that is, youâre not attending any mass around here without buying tickets. I donât have the authority to judge but I choose not to purchase tickets to enter a place of worship.
Besides, in my little bubble, itâs Jesusâ birthday every day. Plenty room in here, Nina! And itâs comfortable tooâMerry Christmas!

I never heard of having to purchase a ticket to attend Christmas Eve Mass or any other mass at the St. Peters Basilica in Rome. Tickets are free if one plans in advance. Some bad seeds are trying to make a buck!
See here for how to get your tickets for free next time you visit Rome. You fill out a .pdf form and fax it to the Prefettura Vaticana. Details in link below:

Btw, I didn't have to pay a cent either! @dandaysâď¸

@ninahaskin. Ah yes, yes, yes! St Peters Basilica is free, you can stand in the court yard for free. To go inside, tickets are required and itâs said you have to get them several months in advance.
Where thereâs profit off religion, I just choose to avoid the whole location, even if there is a section roped off for us peasants. đ We did go by the Pantheon last night, though, just to see whatâs happening and wouldnât you know.... Gotta have tickets there, too.
Offerta!
edit again. Iâm going through here and wondering where this got confusing and realize my emotion came through a little loudly. I try to keep my God fearing, Jesus is my best friend, and every day is his birthday with Pura and I opinion regarding religion(s) to myself but it cane through a little bit and I shouldâve said âaccessâ instead of âpurchaseâ tickets. God bless you, Nina, Merry Christmas!

Sadly, religion and money go hand in hand.
Religion and faith are free.
I only mentioned the link because at the end of the televised Christmas Eve Mass the commentator gave details about how to get free tickets to attend mass. Then I googled.
What's the weather like in Rome this time of year?
Merry Christmas! đđˇđ

(I had to do a little editing on my last one) Before I forget, have you ever checked out my âlocationâ on my profile here? The timing couldnât be better actually.
Thank God itâs not too cold! I have a lot of metal in my leg and the cold really Fâs me up! Either that or Iâm just really addicted to LA weather! <â kidding. No, really, the cold can hurt, specifically that white stuff that falls from the sky sometimes. Thankfully none of that here. Our plan âwasâ to stay south and stay warm for the winter but had to cancel Croatia and wherever even more south of that to get Pura some medical. And where is that, of all places?? England! Danget!! Where it gets even colder than here.
Itâs sweater and a vest weather in the day, maybe a scarf to feel comfortable but I end up loosening it up. Sweater and jacket at night can prove to be a bit much depending what youâre doing. Thatâs a really long way of saying âabout 47âish.â Ha!!
Way to end your comments with a question, Nina! I dig your style. Or maybe I shouldâve said âhow long you been ending your comments with a question? I dig your style.â
