Somewhere in the World, It Must Be Pumpkin Time

in photography •  8 years ago

This picture was taken in October in Half Moon Bay, California, USA. Half Moon Bay is a mecca for pumpkin-heads, since it holds an annual Pumpkin Festival. Looking at the calendar, we are nearly half a year away from Halloween. And that means that in the Southern Hemisphere, it must be pumpkin time! I could eat them year-round.

Pumpkins and other squash are a great symbol of the autumn harvest. These orange orbs make for some nice pictures, too. Green or blue colors set off the orange really well. This pumpkin patch was in a dusty field, so the orange pumpkin color didn't pop as much as it would have with a darker background, but I like the rows of sunflowers, corn (mostly hiding a parking lot), and deep green trees behind the field. With the forested hill above this farm, I didn't even get the sky in the frame, but it may have been too bright anyway.

Carve your name into the skin with a razor blade. Not too deep. Then make sure the carved part sits facing the dirt. It will scab over and surprise the person who picks it.

Of course you would know this! LOL LOL LOL

I didn't realize how messed up that sounds until you reminded me just now... LOL!

hhh trust me is that halloween vibe yea baby , it might sound kind or weird but i like the smell of raw pumpkins smell so healthy and natural no chemical BS

So you're a raw pumpkin sniffer are ya?

I am reminded to make some pumpkin bread soon...

That sounds delicious!

I'm too scarred from the story of poor Peter Peter and his wife to eat any pumpkins. The seeds are a good excuse to consume a ton of salt though...

Pumpkin seeds are very nutritious also.

Not after I get done with 'em!

Beautiful capture and you are right about the coloring! Very impressive.
We follow you now.

This may make me seem dumb, but I only just learned that pumpkin pie, is not made from those orange pumpkins. It's usually made out of dickenson pumpkins which are more similar to a butternut squash then the orange jack-o-lantern pumpkin, despite their name containing the word pumpkin. In fact a lot of pumpkin pie is actually made directly from squashes, as it ends up tasting better that way.

This wasn't exactly related to your post, but seeing the pumpkins made me think about pie. A lot of things recently are making me think about pie. mmmm pie.

Yes, I've heard that also. With enough sugar and spice, we're eating squash pie but don't know the difference.

Yes, I am in South-Africa and we have pumpkins in the shops!!

Yes my friend, here we are in pumpkin season. My mother where she lives has a small vegetable garden where she plants a little of each vegetable. My favorites are the green zucchini and cherry tomatoes (I do not know if you call it that in the USA). There is nothing like organic vegetables without any type of disinfectant. To the tomatoes I eat them with nothing, if any type of condiment, because they do not need them. Beautiful memories brought me with your post, because I live 300 km from she and I have not been going for a long time. Have a good weekend my friend!

I love eating fresh produce also. Cherry tomatoes are terrific.

I like the looks of pumpkins they seem to bring happiness and the festive feeling.

Yeah... I like pumpkin, in my country we make kind of soup mix with pumpkin and coconut milk we called it lodeh waluh ! :)

sounds tasty!

I absolutely love pumpkins. Nothing represents autumn quite as well as a bright orange pumpkin, some dried cornstalks, and orange, red, and yellow leaves on the trees. It's the best season! Summer hasn't even begun but I am already looking forward to October!

Now that's a nice design.

I have never ate a Pumpkin, I realty should try it :)
