He wakes up another day in the eternal Madrid: in that Madrid, that he follows in the footsteps of the smug Dorian Gray and that he is never satisfied contemplating his own portrait. The narcissistic Madrid, which suffocates with its own reflection and every summer receives the visitor with the excavator's orchestra, alleged accomplice of a make-up with which he never ends up agreeing.
But it is also the Madrid of street talent, which shelters in its legendary streets the frustrated reincarnations of Albinoni, Mozart, Wagner or Beethoven, without ever reaching the aphrodisiac cultural scenes of brilliant Vienna.
And yet, despite the sorrows, it continues to be that Madrid that one day made the sacred motto of the North American Founding Fathers its own: the Madrid of all, by all and for all.
Amanece otro día en el Madrid eterno: en ese Madrid, que sigue las huellas del presumido Dorian Gray y que nunca está satisfecho contemplando su propio retrato. El Madrid narcisista, que se ahoga con su propio reflejo y todos los veranos recibe al visitante con la orquesta de la excavadora, presunta cómplice de un maquillaje con el que nunca termina de estar de acuerdo.
Pero es también el Madrid del talento callejero, que arropa en sus legendarias calles las reencarnaciones frustradas de Albinoni, de Mozart, de Wagner o de Beethoven, sin llegar a alcanzar nunca los afrodisíacos escenarios culturales de la brillante Viena.
Y no obstante, a pesar de los pesares, continúa siendo ese Madrid que un día hizo propio el sagrado lema de los Padres Fundadores norteamericanos: el Madrid de todos, por todos y para todos.
