Follow me through "my" Burgundy / Suivez-moi dans "ma" Bourgogne

in photography •  7 years ago

During my childhood, I followed my parents everywhere in France and then my husband all over the world. Now it's time to start my old days in my native village of Southern Burgundy.

I like this region of France and I can even say that I am in love with it. The landscapes are beautiful and the architecture is rich in Roman art, old stone houses and castles of various styles. As far as gastronomy is concerned, I do not really dare to tell you about it, my English-speaking friends, because the specialty is... drumroll...

Snails!

You may perhaps find more comfort in sipping on some of the greatest wines from this area. To name a few: Mercurey, Gevrey Chambertin, Côtes de Beaune, Meursault, and the list goes on. But watch out, alcohol abuse is bad for your health!

There are many beautiful trails around my home and I often go for walks camera in hand. My village is located at the foot of what they call "La Roche" (The Rock), but wine lovers know it as "Côte Chalonnaise". Most often I try to go on the plateau which is at the top of this rock because, on one hand a little exercise doesn't hurt and, on the other, the view is superb.

Today I present you some photos of my surroundings, taken for the most part last Autumn. There are also Charolaise cows, who are always very curious about my presence.

I hope you enjoyed coming on this walk with me.

Nice walk ma mere😙

I've actually discovered that snails are eaten in many different cultures. You guys eat sea snails though right? The ones in Burgundy are HUGE land snails! Delicious with butter garlic sauce :)

S'all about the sauce!

trou zat

Errr land snails?? ive killed almost all of ours in the garden😂😂😂
I think i'll just leave u to them merçi!

Booooooo snail killer! (you must have tons in England)

As a child in the Philippines..we were taught how to be killers so yeah!

Of course. And pirates too.

Bien sure lmao!!!

Burgundy is a beautiful part of the world and after visiting in August I can understand why you chose to settle there.

The Charolais (?) cows peeping over the hedge is a super photo! Are they interested in humans?

Thank you for sharing this lovely part of France!

Thank you for your comments @abh12345.
Yes, this breed of cows, the Charolais, are really interested by humans. They always look like they're asking me a question.

Aren't the cows posing for the camera? They're intelligent u know?

Yes they are, turning grass into milk, wow!

From unedible to edible, see?

I can eat grass.

And what do you turn it into?

poop

Well we have enough poop thank you very much!

c'est manifique!

Oui. Et c'est bon. Miam miam.

What a lovely walk and welcome to steemit, I really like your post and I think I am a lot older than you but my daughter got me and my hubby of 47 years to start a while ago. It is so nice, as we do nothing anymore but get old. Now we are thinking again so please enjoy as much as we do. I am from South Africa but loved holidaying in France.

Thanks a lot @bigbear. You are right, steemit is waking up my mind! I'm starting to enjoy it.

Attendons la fin de la semaine and we will see.

You make beautiful pictures @ofildutemps! It's so nice where you live. I love the rolling landscape. I also like the one with the Charolais cows. They are our neighbors here in our house in the Morvan. We arrived here yesterday from Rotterdam, so glad to be here for 6 weeks or so. We had such beautiful weather today, it was lovely to work in the garden in the sun.

Thank you for your nice comments @clio. I also like cows a lot, they make me laugh.
Were you gardening already? It was nice weather here too but I spent all the afternoon on steemit, writing a post. ahahahah

Yes, I was already gardening. The soil is so wet that the weeds are very easy to extract. But yesterday the sun was shining, today it's raining and I am inside working in the house (a lot of cobwebs)! I hope to make a post this evening or later this afternoon.

yes, it's really rainy today and, except pick up snails ( French expression that you may know), there is not much to do outside.

I am looking forward to read your next blog.

I don't know the expression, but can you send me the French expression, so that I can look up the meaning. My next door neighbor is an American woman who was a French teacher in her home state. I always ask her when I don't know a French saying. But she is not here at the moment, she and her husband come back to France in April.
I am also looking forward reading your next blog. I like the way you write in French and English, very good for my French!!

Thank you for the encouragements @clio
Burgundy snails can be picked up more easily in rainy weather. The expression "aller aux escargots" (going to pick up snails) is used when it rains a lot and it's really impossible to do anything else outside than looking for snails.
Have a nice day.

Oh, thank you for the explanation, I wish you also a nice day.

Merci..

I literally had tears dropping from my eyes while reading this. I have always been in love with the italian and french culture since way back. I loved french

One of my dreams was to some day be in paris with a very good friend of mine and have dinner there. I believe that France as a whole is blessed with nature and you just broke my heart with these bright and colourful pictures of your home town.

It was indeed humour to end the post with pictures of cows lol and to be frank, i love wines and snails and would love to try a french baked bread some day.

I still can thank @osm0sis enough for bringing you to blessed our lives with beautiful photography and heart warming write ups.

Is this the part where I say "merci" again 😂😂

Your comments go straight to my heart. It is true that France and Italy are two beautiful countries that must be discovered but keeping a part of dream is also something wonderful.
Life is worth living only if you have dreams. This sentence is surely not mine but it is so true!
You must have already gone a long way in life to understand it.
In our modern societies we want everything right away and finally we don't appreciate anything anymore.
Keep your dreams of French baked bread, snails and Paris and you'll see, life will certainly take you in the right direction. This is the thoughts of an old lady. ahahahahah

Thanks. I wish I was the one in the old lady's shoes taking such photographs and enjoying nature lol

So beautiful, I understand why you are in love with this place. Lovely photos of magnificent environments:-)

Thank you @kerlund74. I must admit that with such an environment it's easier to make beautiful pictures.

Quelle balade splendide !

A bientôt.

Your photographs are absolutely stunning, you capture the light so beautifully. And I'm falling more and more in love with Burgundy!

Thank you for this very nice comment @natureofbeing.
I believe that when you love someone or something it is easy to sublimate it with a photo.
You will soon have the opportunity to see other landscapes of Burgundy.

Ah oui? On pourra comparer alors. Tu as raison : vive la Bourgogne @nabesteban.

What a great shot of those cows!

yes, they make me laugh each time I see them.

Awesome!

Thank you @gvincentjosephm
