BBQ Season

Although I saw some Canadians start barbequing as soon as temperatures rose above zero, the BBQ season really kicks in June.

All houses have natural gas furnaces for heating and the only time you can smell the smoke is when Edmontonians are grilling. You can't miss it.

When we moved to Alberta I noticed that everything is bigger here compared to Europe;
cars, houses, coffee pots and also barbecues.

They are huge. It's almost like you need some kind of license or training to handle it.

When we visited our friends for the first time I didn't take any photos. We were too enthusiastic and excited. Well, probably hungry too.

This time I was more focused and documented the whole procedure for you.

The beast was ready for the action,

but for the good start, you need a shot of homemade Sljivovica (plum brandy) from Bosnia, or if you prefer a bit sweeter stuff some whiskey with honey.

For folks from Balkans, there is no BBQ without cevapcici.

It's one kind of kebab if you more familiar with the term.

Well, chicken wings are a classic and well-known BBQ dish.

We have a habit to sprinkle some beer over the meat while grilling. Not sure why but I'm sure that there must be some reason for that.

Grilled paprika, young onions, and ajvar (vegetable spread) are mandatory.

In the kitchen, girls prepared refreshing salad made of cucumbers, tomatoes, and corn with pumpkin oil and balsamic vinegar.

The meat was ready and we just add some french fries on a side for the perfect lunch.

Like real Canadians, we used paper plates and plastic forks and knives. It's not the same feeling but you don't need to do the dishes afterward.

We finished our meal and relaxing on the deck when a rain shower came and forced us to move inside.

We didn't complain too much but just finish the day with a glass of sweet white Italian Moscato wine and some roasted chestnuts,

and got this bonus shot of the rainbow for our persistence.

Now is time relax and to prepare us for the normal and a bit lighter menu during the next week.

Can't say it was as abundant and rich as this one though.

Amazing, hope nobody left hungry hehe. :) We also had some bbq time today with one or two Laških , cheers!

Now I understand why you asked last time about cevapcici with my salad&pumpkin oil :) you have some serious grill there and happy you have the balcan spirit in Canada also on the grill.

That is some barbecue dish and side dishes @oldtimer I like your barbecue grill too very neat looking. If I was just able I would always do barbecues but I cannot right now.
We have a rainy day here too so it is hard to grill something and is raining.

I love cooking outside. I've always been interested in how often people in other countries have backyard BBQ's.

We have a good amount of room for our BBQ in the backyard but my dream is to someday have an outdoor wood burning pizza oven.

In Oman BBQ season is between the months of Dec and March. You will see them happening everywhere, at the beach side, in gardens, in the mountains and it's real good fun being out in the nature.
I see you got a sumptuous meal to enjoy and the icing of the cake is the rainbow. Beautiful, I am sure you had an amazing time
