I was wondering that, too. It would have to be a very small group to have been undetected and probably not two species, meaning an inbred group.
Holding a bat's wings forward will stretch the membrane pretty tight and that's another thing that makes it convincing. It's a very good model, assuming it is one.
Photoshop is always suspected, of course.
Seeing a photo of Santa Claus does not change my mind, being the skeptic I am.
I remember way back when they found the Coelacanth that was thought to be extinct. Big surprise, but that's more likely in the ocean than for a pterodactyl in flight. Someone would have noticed.
Most photo shopped pictures show it, but I don't see the normal tell tales on this one. If this was on the expansion west time frame, there are Legends here of the Thunderbird, which was a giant bird that flew before a storm.
If these things came out at dark, as their wing structure suggests, this would fit. If the thunderstorms flushed them out to run for cover. This could be the sightings we are wondering about....

Agreed that it would be a first class photoshop job and would likely have had to be a very good model of the critter.
I did a google image search on the top photo and came up with a lot of links; some with references to background, including those about the Thunderbird. Still nothing concrete about the photo's origin.
Curious stuff.

This one is a quandary for sure. I would have dismissed this except for the Thunderbird legend. The Oklahoma military division is called the Thunderbirds....
Because of this, I have to assume there was an original source for this legend. I can Not think of a better fit to make this legend take root. So this, more than the picture, lends credence to the possibility for these beasts to be here in the not to distant time frame.

That photo is the kind of artifact that the experts look at, develop a scowl and then pure disdain, and then toss it in the "I can't explain this one" file labeled HOAX.
Out history is full of those anomalies that likely carry far more truth about the past than many of the accepted versions supported by academia.
No one wants to admit that most of what they learned was just flatly wrong and/or incomplete.

Agreed, and these days they teach revised History, if anything! We need to start over on education, and make it work again!
BUT, the Thunderbird legends would explain this picture, perfectly!

I like that all, an NO federal funding allowed! Local only, and I like the one room school house idea too.
You can NOT get any more local on the control than that!
