The Middle

From the vault! This was written, by hand, by ME, on November 7, 1997, which would make me 17. YIKES! Amazingly, I can still read my own handwriting.

The Middle

contrary to belief
my mind is the hurricane
pre-destined to destroy
my heart, the
surrounding storms
a burning knowledge
contained in my throat
my body follows close behind
raging in the silence
of its own right
the before of this
turbulent existence
is far gone, deep into the mists
smoke rising, creating a fog
the sky is falling down
the after is yet to come
the eye of the hurriance
is calm
so science says
but what place does love
hold against physical things
my heart
anchored for etenrity
frozen by one night
round warm droplets
falling from the open red skies
foolishly caught in the middle
swept up by the storm
my body shudders to a halt
possessed by fear
suspended in time

This was extremely expressive and beautifully written. I get so giddy when I look back through my old journals from my teen years.

I felt a bit cringy, but at the same time, I guess it wasn't bad for teenage me. <3 Thanks for reading.

How awesome that you still have this! Most of my old journals and writings are lost, although I do have some. Including a journal from 1984 (I was 13ish)

It sounds like you captured the turmoil of young adulthood/teen years well even then!

I'm a bit of a packrat when it comes to books. Whenever I move, several large boxes of books go with with, including my old journals and a file cabinet full of random papers. Thanks for reading!

As always, this is just magnificent! Also, your handwriting is beautiful. It makes me a little envious, haha.

17 year old me writes differently from 38 year old me. I've mostly forgotten how to write in cursive. My writing now is what I call pursive - a mashup of print and cursive. And thank you for the compliments! <3
