howdy @squirrelbait! sorry it took so long to get back to you, I was out and away for hours today and got behind catching up here. Thanks for the thoughts on prepping vs survivalist, it makes sense that a survivalist is a prepper who can actually survive and not just have a basement full of supplies.
As far as trusting in the Lord vs. preparing on are own, the Bible has alot to say about being wise, watching whats going on, being aware and being prepared also and if you are truly born again and love God then His love is in you so you are going to want to be ready and to be ABLE to help as many people as possible.
So as a Christian I think we have a responsibility to urge others to prepare and then to have an oversupply to help those who didn't or can't prepare.
I think we have a duty to oversupply ourselves so we have something to share if or when things break down. So no I don't have a struggle with that, I think that prepping is wise and is not opposite of trusting God.
God trusts US to be wise and to be able to help others but we can't do that if we can't even help ourselves.
Of course I pray about it and try to get God's leading on how to prepare, what to do, how much, etc.
As far as Bonham...lol! that's only about 35 miles from our place!
Texas is in a tremendous economic boom, the largest corporations in the world are moving here, the place is exploding in growth, sleepy little towns are almost instantly becoming cities.
Over 1,000 people per day are moving here so it's nuts.
But tons of jobs. Why what kind of work?

Thank you for your perspective. Wonderfully said! Thank you. My hubby applied for a position with the VA in Bonham. We shall see. We will end up where we are supposed to be. Getting out of the NE was a great idea. I like Iowa but really really miss having a place to go play.

I lived in Syracuse, NY and would play in the Adirondacks. There was BLM land to play in within an hour's drive as well. Iowa only has small Parks. ALOT of farms! Especially here in the center of the state (Des Moines area). The parks are too small to go off trail and play. They don't allow primitive camping either. However, the people here are awesome. The air is cleaner. I do like it here. I think we would like Texas a lot. Have you always lived in Texas?

My wife and I moved to TX 2.5 yrs ago from Ohio but I grew up on a farm out by Dodge City, KS
so the culture is similar to KS. Alot of people can't handle the heat here though, today it's
getting to 100. Three months of brutal heat but then the rest of the year is heaven as far
as weather, in my opinion. So yes I think you'd like it here if the heat didn't get to you.
there's a gun shop on every other corner and a donut shop on the other!
very much gun culture where we are, we hear gunfire everyday.
