You're probably right and I admire you for that attitude. @steevc invited me to join because back in the day I was pretty prolific with my output. I too started out with "Well, I'm posting stuff all the time so..." the problem is when you start focusing solely on Steemit for your content your personal websites (I have a few) start to suffer from lack of content. Now that's fine if you're getting something in return for Putting all your eggs in one basket sadly, I don't feel I'm getting a good enough return on ignoring my other commitments. If that changed I'd stop whining. LOL

We can all spread ourselves a bit thin with all the social media options. I pretty much gave up on my own blogs and decided to go with Steem. I lose some audience, but gain others. I don't have time to post on many places. I do the odd tweet and FB post. If you have a good audience elsewhere then you need to look after them. It's all a compromise. Of course they could all join Steem :) I will happily create accounts for people, but I can understand if people are even more wary of it right now.

They don't want to join Steemit, they don't get rewarded enough. LOL

It's a chicken/egg situation. Seriously I know other people who are really not sure about Steem for various reasons. There are dodgy people here, but that's what you get when there are no rules. We can have freedom or control. The current situation has exposed a weakness that some had warned about. As I said before, nothing is perfect. Meanwhile open source projects fight wars over wallpaper colours and button positions :)

Oh god yeah. FOSS is full of Drama Queens who almost see 'getting offended' as some sort of moral badge.
