So, dating. It’s a weird thing to think about anyway, but as a 38 year old divorced mother of three (one with special needs), it’s particularly weird. Exciting, yes. Baffling, most of the time. But even the most clueless among us seem to stumble upon other people who like us and want to hang out. I’m currently “talking to” (I don’t know what the kids call it now) an amazing man that I knew from college. He is kind, and talented, and funny. In those ways he’s mostly like the other men I’ve dated since my divorce.

But the difference. He’s sooooo laid back. We live about three hours apart and I’m learning about different communication styles. I’ve always felt like I was running out of time. I’ve kinda always needed people to validate things about me.

So I find myself asking why I need to hear those things. I am 38 years old. I know my own worth and don’t need others to plan a life. I’ve got some pretty great plans.

So today I’m grateful for this experiment in dating someone completely different from my normal “type.” I’m excited to see what I learn about myself as I learn about him.

I seem to be finding people that live a few hours away from me. The other day I was giving myself shit about this but then I thought, well what if I live in a world where everything is allowed? Where this is allowed too? and it's ok. And I realized, well I'll keep making these choices until I stop, and I'm not going to judge myself for doing this.

That is a great way to think about it! We are unnecessarily hard on ourselves a lot!
