Radio frequency ID chips.
Let's break it down more... A small chip and antenna. That can carry up to 2,000 bytes of data.
A chip that can transmit data to an interrogator.
A reaching conspiracy or could tracking devices, sorry.. RFID chips, being implanted into humans really happen? The convenience of it has already been talked about by multiple companies. Cash is already starting to become a rarity and tap-to-pay is making it's move into the financial world. Credit/Debit cards are already taking away the burden of carrying and keeping track of cash. One 2x4 inch of plastic with next to all of your financial information and needs on it.. so what's the difference of putting all of your information into one small micro chip that's in you and you can't lose?
Oh the absolute convenience of these... how easy to not have to worry about your wallet, your money, or now even your cards. The freedom.
Until they're required. You get a chip, you get a chip, everybody gets a chip!!!
For now, they're optional and "not able to track you". But who's to say our kid's or grandkid's generations won't have traceable chips. It's really just a matter of time until it's a socially accepted norm like tattoos or piercings.
Take the company Three Square Market... they have chips for their employees that are, of course, voluntary. But who's to say that if you choose not to, that won't restrict you from promotions or being let go in the near future. It's all involuntarily voluntary. The younger generations will eat it up, because it will be the next cool thing, and the older generations that aren't for it, will eventually be gone. It's morbid, but true.
So the next time you think that convenience is key... so is freedom.
